Weird PP Gains??

So, recently, I've been getting back into osu! and I've been FC'ing songs that I should be from my former rank (~12k) which I held at the beginning of last summer.
The weird thing I've been noticing though: (currently ~18k) I still gain ranks like I'm @ 12k.
Is this something anybody else has noticed, or is it just me? I just FC'd this and got ~160PP, but gained 120 ranks... Maybe I've just forgotten how ranks work??

Your pp didn't change even if your rank decayed. You'll still need to make the same plays to gain ranks.
