It was just a thought but what if the in game mode select icons for the default osu! skin were the ones for osu!next(The tournament icons). It's unecessary but it would be a nice change especially considering the new osu! Cutting Edge main screen. (Sorry the images are so big)

I think with osu!next the Default skin is going to be revamped as well, if that's what you meant.
