This sound will really unnecessary or weird but when I'm modding that whistle sound is kinda annoy me because it's too loud and noisy. It would be better that we can change all whistle sound to clap sound. (Just let you know the whistle and clap are kat for Taiko.)

Thank you. :)

I agree
I used a custom whistle when modding for this reason

What about changing sample set?
I assume you're referring to the normal-hitwhistle, right? In that case open up the timing window and switch everything to soft or drum sample set and those loud whistles will go away =3=

Well but the whistle sound doesn't like clap sound, plus Taiko is just used for normal sampleset :o

fyi, soft sample is not usually being used by anyone due to it's nature.

also, yes... i really approve this. cause taiko is "hitsound" based pattern, and having 2 different thing for something similar is just useless.

btw hello mint

The part "no one uses the soft sample set" doesn't really make sense for me, since it's just for modding, not mapping (but yeah, mint said that it doesn't give the same feel and that may be true)

What about using a skin where clap and whistle (normal sample set) are the same as Bara- said?
It shouldn't affect the taiko gameplay, but it should make up for the issue explained here...
Bara-
I never said that xD
I said I use a different sound to make it less of a pain (fyi, I despise all of the default skin's samples)

that will be bad every time I need to change different skin just for modding :|

It actually doesn't matter if you map in Soft or Normal, both are rankable. Just don't use Drum Samples because the current default Taiko Hitsounds have no Drum Samples. The feature itself is practically not needed because Clap and Whistle has a really small difference which you won't notice unless you use both and listening very carefully.

I map with the Taiko skin - which takes 5 seconds in total to leave Edit Mode, change the skin and go back. I am not sure if you have such time issues. :P Instead, you can support the idea for a Taiko Edit Mode with Kat, Don, Big Don/Kat, Drum slider and Spinner as hitobject elements. That'd work better than enforcing every whistle to clap.

yeah this it's a good idea but if the problem it's whistle why don't do the osu! block the whistle? also the whistle would not lack in taiko because kat has only one sound. so... good luck with your idea
Arcubin
i agree with stefan's.

like mania, taiko should alter it's "mapping" object with don, kat, big don, and everything else.

You do know that the taiko skin is not able to be found anymore? Back in the days, osu!me had a skins option, including taiko skin. That got removed, including all those skins (like Samba de Amigo and quite some others)

That's not the core reason of this request. Many recent Taiko skins got these hitsounds anyway (perferably skins by crystalsuicune are recommend for this).
