How to use beatmap combo color but nothing else?

So my question is: Is there any possible way to play with my skin's elements and the combo colors from the beatmap without having the other beatmap skin elements override the elements of my own skin?
I've recently noticed that when you enable "Ignore all beatmap skins", you're not able to see the combo colors from the beatmap (even if your skin.ini contains no combo colors). However when you disable it, beatmap skin will override all of your elements (hitcircle, hitcircleoverlay, spinner, etc.).
I've noticed certain livestreamer has constantly changing combo colors with each beatmap, yet I've never seen any beatmap specific skin elements on his stream.
Am I doing something wrong or do I actually have to delete all the skin elements from all the beatmaps to achieve this?

Just delete the skin files of the beatmap.
Easy way to get to the beatmap's folder:
  1. open the map in the beatmap editor (through menu or F3 and choose "5. Edit")
  2. open the file menu and click on "open beatmap folder"
  3. now look at all images and delete the images named like in a normal skin
  4. exit the editor and the beatmap should reload automatically (if not just press F5 to reload all maps
  5. go play the map
don't delete the files that end with .osu or .mp3.
