So, on a whim I came back to play some osu! after more than a year away. When I last played, I had some 700 songs divided into 45 folders, and I used the sort by folder function to organize them. This worked incredibly well. When I came back, the sort by folder function was gone and my 700 songs were an unmanageable catastrophe. Some googling told me that this was intentional, and that sort by folder had been phased out in favor of collections.
Alright, fine, let's sort my songs into collections. To add a song into a collection, you have to find that song, press F3, press 1, click +set, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat - 700 times in my case. And then everytime I download a pack, another 10-30 times. I'm looking at literally hours of upfront work, and then several minutes of work per pack I want to download to accomplish the same task that used to take 15 seconds. The idea that the collections feature was ready to replace the folder sort option is absurd. In the absence of any sort of batch add/remove, collections are a positively useless tool for sorting - what they really are is a tool for tagging songs ("these are streams I want to practice on," "these are jumps I want to practice on," etc, etc). That's useful, but it's actually a different purpose and does nothing to help me organize my library save mark some for later use.
Can we just get folder sort back? Or at least a way to build a collection from a folder full of songs? Because as is, the best way to actually organize your entire library of beatmaps is to alt-tab and look at them in Windows Explorer - and that is hilarious and sad, and also still incredibly annoying compared to how simple and efficient it was before.
