A mod that mutes all hitsounds in a beatmap for more points. Most players consider it very difficult to play without any hitsounds at all, but it is possible with great knowledge of the map/song, so I think it would be interesting to reward players for that. This would also be more like other rhythm games that do not use hitsounds. (stepmania, guitar hero/rock band etc.) Personally I find playing without hitsounds occasionally is really fun. This is far from necessary, but I think it's a cool idea.
I have no idea what effects this might have on ranked play. Here are a few issues that should probably be addressed:
  1. How will this affect existing multipliers/mod combinations?
  2. How will this affect players that already play with hitsound volume off?
  3. How will this affect very skilled, highly ranked players? (Are there any top players that play without hitsounds?)
  4. How will this affect the PP system in general?
  5. Is it plausible to pass beatmaps with very high BPM without any hitsounds?
If I missed a really obvious reason why this is a terrible idea, please let me know, otherwise I would love to hear from people that like this idea, especially players that do not use hitsounds. :D

I'm not sure if this would contribute a lot to the game. There are players that use hitsounds that almost sound alike on most cases, which would relatively compare to the tapping sound of a mechanical keyboard, or just a standard keyboard with an audible sound once a key is pressed if there were no hitsounds in game. Some may say that the sound is covered up by wearing headphones, but I think listening to the song is enough to get to the rhythmic beat and hit the circles right.

Well, know it or not, there's a effect volume which also affects hitsounds volume so... If you set the effect volume to 0%, there would already no hitsounds and player can set their effect volume to their preference so... Well, you know it.

Some beatmaps contain beats that don't always match up to the song perfectly, which is mostly the reason that hitsounds exist/are so helpful. It's true that the song is often enough to time your inputs correctly but for certain beatmaps it doesn't really help that much.
The problem with timing via your own keypress sounds is that, if you're off-beat or incorrect in your timing, you're then receiving off-beat or incorrect feedback which will inevitably ruin your timing/cause misses. I think you would have to be extremely confident in your own rhythm to actually be able to keep time with only your keypress sounds. I do feel like the game might not exactly need another ranked mod, but this should be difficult enough to warrant one.

No, just set object volume to 0%

I typically alternate playing mania with and without hitsounds every month or so. The only thing affecting performance is how well the map is done and possibly placebo. CtB can go w/o hitsounds without.making a difference too. Not so sure about Std and Taiko though.

Anyway like said, just set your volume to 0%.

I'd say either set your effects to 0%, or replace your hitsounds with a blank .wav file. I see no reason for this to give extra points.

We have limited spaces for mods. We should be adding mods that perform functions that you can't currently do without mods.

I personally always hated rhythm games without hitsounds. So I would not support this
