Alrighty, first Beatmap!

I had a go at making one for Jumpin' Jack Flash, the notorious final song from EBA. It's not a faithful reproduction, rather it's an entirely new song. Mainly to eliminate those nasty gaps that would otherwise appear.

I really just want feedback right now - I.e. Bits that could use improvement, bits that are too hard/far too easy etc.

OK first and foremost - please add timing to the map. I'm not sure why but it's the most common mistake made by new beatmappers. Have a read through the Beatmap Making Guide before going any further. If you need any more help with timing, ask any of the mods around here - we're happy to have a look for you.

Played through a little bit of the map and there are a few issues you will need to sort out (but only AFTER adding timing):

1. The mp3 is too soft. This song ROCKS! So the volume really needs to be amped up a bit to reflect that.
2. I noticed a few sliders/note combos that start/end on the same beat. This is impossible to do on a mouse - you'll need to leave a bit of a gap for that.
3. After you add the timing, snap your notes to the timing so that everything is in beat.

Hope that helped. I really look forward to seeing JJF finally on osu!

The Rolling Stones - Jumpin Jack Flash

Updated version -

Timed, some changes made to note placement (Esp. Combo buttons).

As much as I love slider ticks ('sup combo mutliplier), they seem a bit heavy on the map. Personally, I'm no beatmapper, but christ, there are a lot of slider ticks...

Timing is a bit off - but it's quite a tricky one to get for this song. The speed may change slightly due to the older recording... I don't know. I've got BPM=137.23 and offset = 14884 but I'm not convinced it's perfect. Anyone else wanna try?

If you just let it play beginning to end in design mode, you'll find the later part is much more on time than the first section. JJF's intro doesn't seem to work well with the timing for the rest of it...

I'll have a shot at this when I get home, unless someone beats me!

Well, still waitin' on Peppy's test run. I suppose turning beat snapping OFF and manually positioning the intro's beats is the most feasible solution...

Sorry! This has been sitting in my mind - I didn't forget.

Taking a look now.

Edit: OK... fixed this one up with an epic 40 minute effort. Timing was way out, and a lot of note placement were either out or snapped too far to the next beat. Every slider also had to be replaced due to incorrect BPM settings for initial placement.

Please spend at least a bit of time comparing this with you old - and make sure I haven't put anything in the wrong place.

Also I'm not sure about those last three sliders- they don't really match the beat at all... maybe you can do something about that!

Righty-O! Thanks so much, Peppy! I fixed the sliders at the end (I.e. replaced), since they were mainly filler stuff anyway.

Again, thanks so much! I think a bit of third-party scrutiny is best before I chuck this over to the Completed Section. It certaintly is fine in my books.

The only problem with the song itself that it doesn't have nearly as much energy as the EBA cover does. There are many many many covers of JJF, and not one of them comes close (or sounds as good). Of course, the problem with using the game version... well, the quality is crap. :P

At any rate, I can't wait to play it. Though it'll feel weird. :/

What a shame it's the original version, by the original band then. If no one has any issues, I'll post this over in the completed section.

Or, alternatively, a mod could move it. Whichever's easier.

Edit: Thank you, mods.

Hey there.

My only problem with this one is that some notes felt a bit off. One example of it is 2:00:96.

You should also try to use a bit more of the beatspacing feature, there are some places where the notes are at the same distance but their time is different, that makes the player miss some notes.

Apart from those, the beatmap is awesome. You should also try with an easier version with the circles bigger and less notes. You know, for the begginers. =D

Cya!

I agree with Extor about some of the note placement. It's a bit tricky to follow at times.

As for the EBA cover versus the original recording, the EBA version added a lot of "oomph" to the song. I'm not saying that it made the song better, but the result was a song that sounded (and, more importantly, played) very differently. The reason I bring it up is that your current background for the song is a picture of the EBA. I suggest replacing that with an image of the Rolling Stones themselves (perhaps even a video), because the EBA version and the Stones version are both iconic in very different ways, and a picture of the real band would set the mood better for the real song.

JJF, Hardtype. A few notes trimmed and background altered.

Mmm... I don't see any differences on this new version. I still see the EBA background... (Unless you changed the pose of them or something like that. XD )

About the easy version, go to the "song setup" option and input the difficulty in "difficulty description". That way you can have more versions of a single song. Right now I need to overwrite the hard one to play the easy one.

Also, change the notes in the easy instead of only increasing the size of the circles, when I meant for the begginers was to have the same song with less notes.

That's... wierd. I thought I changed the background... Must have uploaded the wrong one. Odd. Reupping now...

And...

Done! 3 modes of fun!

Agent in Training - Some of the harder notes have been chopped, HP drain is down and so is overall difficulty.

Beat Agent - This is the regular version. Hard, sure, but a seasoned player should be able to do it!

Elite Beat Agent - Same as Beat Agent, but the HP Drain and overall difficulty are against you. Can you beat the heat?

Sorry, but I don't like it. The beat and slider placement seems almost random in relativity to the timeline, and it makes it really hard for me to enjoy the song. No offense, but I don't think this will ever make it past casual play.

Wow. That was... unexpected...

In terms of the time line, the beats/sliders tend to follow the words. "Agent In Training" mode is a shell of the proper version (which is "Beat Agent" and, by extension, "Elite Beat Agent") and thus has some of the tune-following bits scrapped in favour of easiness.

The other modes, however, tend to follow the lyrics. [Beat] [Beat] [Slider---] are used commonly for the common lyrics "Dah dah daaaah" (E.g. "I fell dooown", "I was raaaaised, In a Crossfire Hurricaaaane" etc), and the chorus of the song features a different take each time (In the middle, three small sliders for each of the words "Jumping Jack Flash" and earlier on [Beat] [Beat] [Beat], [Beat] [Beat] [Slider---] for "[Jumping] [Jack] [Flash], [It's [A] [Gaaass]").

There are a few spots where there are those sort of 'blended' guitar solos where it's the constant strumming and it's hard to assign Beats to any particular notes, however these are all dealt with using sliders/spinners.

I have noticed one area where it doesn't really flow around 02:00, and I'll fix that, but are there any specific areas that you would like to identify in either of the two Beat Agent modes? If your major issue is in fact with "Agent In Training" mode, I will set about remaking it.

Sorry if I seem a little pushy, but it comes as somewhat of a shock after's Extor's praise of "the beatmap is awesome".
Extor
But I didn't say it was perfect. *hides*

Anyway, I think you should make the whole beatmap with nice beat spacing. You can now hold alt for it so it can't be soo hard.

Link is fixed for you. try putting (url=http://insertURLhere.com)...(/url)
using brackets instead of parenthesis, of course.

Okay, however you'll note that This is the latest version. That one is outdated.

And yes, I know how to work basic BBCode.

I'm not saying you didn't, i'm quite proficient at BBCode but i still forget to put the url inside the bracket as well. Peppy's uploader hasn't caught on yet...

Hrmmmm...I tried out your latest version. The spacing still needs some working (they do seem a bit spontaneous). When sliders begin and end also need to be worked on a bit. It got a lot better towards the end, so only the beginning needs work. Other than that it's nice to listen to the original while playing Osu! (I've listened to the OST of EBA and Ouendan 2 too much for my own good).
