Maplestory. Sunk all my lunch money in that game
If you count15 years old as childhood because the first mmo i played was Gate to Heavens back in like 2004. Loved it!
They didn't exist when I was a child 
First MMO I played was Ultima Online and I was ± 17 then, so let's say it was my favorite, if it still classify as childhood, although I wouldn't recommend that game to kids.

if we ignore that I didn't really play much of it I think runescape is the best in retrospect
When I was about 10 I'd played a game called Sacred Seasons, and have been playing it up until a few months ago, dead game but so many good times. (Not to mention all the cash I shilled out on it...)

Runescape, was quite addicted to it back in the ol' days, but then I started getting tired of the repetitiveness.
Played Runescape until I got hacked and lost 15 million, and my account. Not worth starting over at that point. :/
I enjoyed Archeage quite a lot, I was one of the only players to actually achieve max level and obtain some of the best gear in the game without paying a single cent. The game is horrible now, though, I would not recommend.
I WOULD recommend:
TERA (really fun Anime MMO), Trove (addicting af), and Echo of Soul (another fun Anime MMO). All 3 are still entertaining to play, and NOT so much p2w.
