My brother is the leader of an esports team. Recently, he was owning it against a few players, who wanted to win so badly that they DDOS'd our internet. I had no clue why or how my internet went out, until my brother told me.

Well, that case clearly requires protection to prevent attacks.
Change your ip address / call your isp to do it for you / create a static ip address.
