Multi-accounting

I don't understand the whole thing about multiaccounting being such a huge violation... :shock:

I mean... Osu! is a free to play game so it doesn't make sense to literaly perma ban someone just because they have created multiple account for their own use whilst still focusing on delivering the best performance on their main account.
WoW (as example), imagine you wouldve been able to only create ONE character and if you would create more you would get punished if you would create more.

I would really appreciate an in depth explanation about multiaccounting, if someone could do that for me! Thank you in advance! :D

Because it kills the leaderboard, here's an over-exaggerated example: Mr. BestOsuPlayer have 99 accounts, he got the same amount of pp on all his accounts, it would mean Mr. SecondBestOsuPlayer will be #100 instead of #2

there is literally no need for a second account within osu!. even in WoW, your characters are binded to a single account(i think). the whole idea of multiaccounting is just silly. what possible reason could justify needing one??

New username, more pending maps, modding your own map... No worrying about getting silenced/bad reputation. Like your own comment below beatmaps. PM people from more accounds which probably increases the chance of a response.

And more stuff on forums such as self advertisement, and all you can think of.

username changing is available(unless you want to steal different username and disallow people to take them)
pending map limit abuse
kudosu abuse
silence evasion
and cause and effect from people not liking you.

none of those are solid reasons.

the whole reason people use multi accounts is to make themselves look good by having a low playcount and high rank. pretty sure peppy shared a video going over multiaccounting and why is was silly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDzM3wz ... &t=1h5m34s

If you're really anal about ranking/stats you could "practice" and mess up a song you have trouble with all you want on your side account and then switch to your main account after to flawlessly beat it so your stats on your main always stay high (then again it looks suspicious anyways)

If it was really about ranking or stats you could just play offline and go online to play the map well.

Whats the point on being able to change username only once? I know people would be probably harder to track and you would never know who is who. But its their responsibility so they wouldnt do that too often. Changing name like every month is might be a better option.

About pending maps: I dont think you should limit someone who is sedulous and map a lot. There is a valid point against that tho. I think newbies would upload tons of incomplete shit maps. But allowing to upload more maps for progressive mappers would be a great idea.

You can change your name multiple times
Supporters get one for free, each extra one costs money

Also, if you get a ranked map, you can upload more maps
I currently have 7 pending maps due to that
The cap is reasonable

users are able to have more map slots as they get more ranked maps. supporters get +2 straight away anyway. also you can get more username changes from the osu!store. also monthly name changes would be chaotic. there have been requests to have username changes like once a year or something, but that didn't really get anywhere.
also i've been here for 6 years and never once tried to change my name. pick a name you're going to keep. one or 2 username changes should be more than enough unless you one of those people who changes their usernames on a whim just because they can

i'm not actually sure to be honest. i think if you have one of the 2 supporter slots used you can still update that map, but you can't submit a new one. can't confirm though

If you upload the maps before supporter expired, you can update the maps after, but you can't submit the extra slots after expired
