Mania Specific songs

Hi! I've been playing osu!mania for fun.
I've been wondering if I should play osu!mania specific songs.
The reason why I've been wondering this is because playing osu songs in osu!mania mode has different patterns than osu!mania specific songs.

I want to play osu!mania to get better, so I've been wondering if I should stop playing normal osu songs in mania mode.
I have a friend who plays mania seriously and he told me to stop playing normal osu songs, and start playing specific songs.
He told me that patterns in normal songs "doesn't make sense" and I should stop playing them.

Is this true? Should I stop playing osu songs and start playing mania specific songs?

The patterns in auto-converts (osu songs) are bad and simple. They can be alright for absolute beginners who are just learning to press the right key, but it's always better to play mania-specific songs. You will quickly come to find that mania-specific songs are much more fun to play and you will improve faster by playing them. Note patterns are a major part of the fun and challenge of mania and similar games, and auto-converts just don't really have patterns, or even follow the music well. So yes, play mania-specific songs and don't look back.
