There's the normal plain leaderboards that most players use to judge the skill of other players. People also use it for tournaments, by judging their skill upon their rank.

But it's not very accurate. Some people might be farming 2 star beatmaps and their could be someone who can FC a 4 star, yet they might be in the same rank range.

So, I thought of a new system for ranking the players skill, called Stars.

Every 1-2 weeks, the average stars of ranked beatmaps you've completed (without NoFail, SpunOut, Relax, AutoPilot or any other unranked mod) is considered your Stars.
Stars go from .5 (lowest) to 10 (highest).
There would be a new leaderboard for Stars and your amount of stars would be found right under Play Count when looking at your in-game panel and at your profile.

so many issues i dont even know where to begin. basically the biggest issue is that it devalues acc players and is completely pointless.

and no thats not really a thing, their rank would still be miles apart given 2 star maps give like 15 pp for SS and 4 stars give upwards of 70 even with lowish OD (7) and 98%. the system works fine because if player A is truly better than player B, he can outrank him if he really wanted to just by playing the same farm game the less-skilled guy is. People who don't care enough to ever play for pp are, honestly, often not accurately weighted, but since they don't care it's a victimless crime.

I am starting to see a growing concern dealing with players' actual rankings. The current system is based on the top plays of any ranked map while the players want a more dynamic system. The skill the player has, according to the current system, is based on updating each of your ranked plays to what your current skill level is. That means a player can have a bunch of 10 - 20pp plays and that one 120pp. This says the player is capable of achieving a higher rank (given no cheats), but chooses not to focus on such. The current system especially benefits pp farmers which know how and what maps to play with which mods to yield the highest pp.

I proposed a system to go parallel with the current one based on multiplayer play, but unsure how good it is. However, it's quite evident some players are asking for a more dynamic system.

People's rank is always going to correspond in some way to their skill, though. Even if they're not tryhard PP farmers they're going to eventually FC some maps for the PP if they're good players.

There's always the situation where someone 100 ranks lower than someone else is actually the better player, but it's perfectly functional as a general way to gauge a player's skill.
