Problem Details:
There are visible text boxes on every single text element except the PPY icon in bottom left.

Video or screenshot showing the problem (photographs):

There is actually some around the media controls and giant osu logo but it's too subtle to photograph

See, you can do text without a box

Osu! version: 20150414.2 (latest) and Cutting Edge, It's the same on both DirectX and OpenGL

Oh, and also the downloading text in the bottom left and restart osu text (I saw it when swapping to cutting edge)
It's more visible due to TN color shifting and higher contrast ratios but it doesn't change the fact it's there to begin with.
Interestingly enough I can't see it in my print screens on my phone because it has an IPS screen with a lower contrast ratio.

VA panel contrast ratio : 5000:1
My Monitor's contrast ratio : 1000:1 (can easily spot those boxes)
My Phone's contrast ratio: 805 (boxes are invisible for me)
Cheapo monitor contrast ratio: 600:1

If your last post was invalid why do you create another one?

Because Peppy blamed the screenshotting software so I photographed my ingame menu, it wasn't invalid. I also figured out it was text boxes, not compression artifacts which validates my case substantially.

Can you use puush?

I'd rather use dropbox since I actually have it installed and it doesn't effect the image quality in any way which is one of the excuses I got for my previous post being declined.

Wow, very valid point. I wasn't able to see it until really looked for it and upped my contrast. Hope this gets fixed :)

Oh that's an issue. Can't confirm on this cheapo monitor, but the photos should speak as proof.

I have no idea how you even saw that, the colours are literally 0,0,0 RGB outside of these boxes is and 1,1,1 RGB inside.
Anyhow, confirming.

It's 1,1,1 - 3,3,3 but yeah *shrugs* heh
peppy
This is intentional, as it helps correct issues with gdi text rendering.

If you can see this, your monitor isn't "good", it's "incorrectly configured". Run windows display calibration.

Make sure you have "dynamic contrast" turned off on your monitor.

I can see it too and have put a fair amount of effort into calibrating my monitor. It's still obvious to me - but it's quite likely that it's particularly visible on the 144hz 1080p screens, many of them have similar (or the same) panel etc with messed up gamma curve at the low end (dark stuff isn't as dark as it's supposed to be and it's uncorrectable without messing up the rest of the colors)

These are some of the best monitors in the world for playing osu! and quite common, the final step for any performance-oriented gamer.

Since the pixels are not the same color, it should be visible on any monitor - it just might be less blatantly obvious that there are random overlapping almost-transparent boxes in the UI.

I'm getting 0,0,0 next to 2,2,2. The 1,1,1 color difference isn't really noticable, but the 0,0,0 next to 2,2,2 brings it out a little bit enough to notice that there are actually three levels of color there with the naked eye.

here's a photograph on my calibrated screen. The webcam is completely terrible but you can see what is or is not represented on the screen and the text boxes are naked-eye-visible. That's, left to right:

2,2,2 (two boxes overlapped)
1,1,1 (one box)
0,0,0 (black)

This is first time I've ever seen a HUD that claims to need visible text boxes.
I'm certain that this is easily view-able on a VA screen, IPS and TN have far worse contrast capabilities.

Besides, being able to tell the difference of 0-3 luminosity is a good thing...

"Easily viewable" without the kinda messed up gamma curve on low end, IDK how common that would be. Viewable for a large amount of osu players with properly calibrated, generally good monitors (with a few flaws) - absolutely.

the 1,1,1 color gap is quite small, but the double or triple overlaps are what make it quite easy to pick out.

Moving to low priority....
