I'm not active in the community anymore, but I was recently informed that a few days ago, peppy said this in #modhelp unprovoked.
context
I was disgusted by this for a number of reasons that I will outline in this post:
First of all, there have been a handful of transgender staff members in the past, as well as currently. To not respect a person's gender is one thing, but to purposely misgender and dehumanise members of your own team is vile. When we consider a fact like trans or gender non-conforming youth in the US having a 41% rate of attempted suicide versus 4.6% in the overall population, it is doubly fucked up. The young people that spend hours a day in this community do not need the additional transphobia, and I'm concerned that it will escalate, though I'm not worried about anyone in particular as a direct reaction.
Additionally, the statement has more weight because it is spoken by the primary developer and figurehead of this game. It would be bad enough spoken by some random and left unpunished, but by the leader of the community, it is abhorrent.
Essentially, what I would like from peppy is to apologise for his impudent words and to make similar statements in IRC silenceable. I would like the community to think about the consequences of its words, and to treat disenfranchised groups with respect; the minimum being to respect them as humans and to acknowledge their gender identity as valid.
I expect that most people won't give two shits about this, but really, the osu! community can do better.
tl;dr: truly, truly, truly outrageous statements
