When someone asks you for a map of difficulty '4' stars, how do you interpret this?

Give me maps around/about the difficulty of 4 (For example, ~3.8-4.3)

When someone asks you for a recommendation, for example: give me 4 star maps or give me 5.3 star maps, or give me 3.6 star maps, etc.

Depends on how they word the question:

"4 star": 4.xx

"around 4 star": 3.8x-4.xx

Either way, I might pick a lower or higher rating map if I think that map is beneficial and the player can handle it.

Give me 5 star maps: 5.00 to 5.99

Give me maps around 5.00 stars : 4.8 to 5.2

Give me maps around 5.4 stars

5.2-5.6

I never really adapted to the star system so when people ask I have to say over and over again that I don't know. I still remember when everything was 5 stars and everyone was fine.

I have to agree with others here. It depends on the wording, but I would default to just over that number of stars if it isn't clear. I have over 3500 maps so it's not exactly hard to find a map like that. :l

Obviously if the wording is clear there is no need for this. The meaning of this poll is to survey how people would react when the wording isn't clear.
