Animated Avatars are not allowed anymore (GIF avatars)

Why are GIF avatars not allowed anymore? I recently got a message regarding about my avatar that i should change it and it's on the rules and it is new. Does GIF avatars do anything bad? Anyways just asking questions :D.


(And oh reminding all the players there that has GIF avatars to kindly change it now to non-animated avatars :) if you don't you will be (maybe) banned or your avatar will be removed.)

They weren't allowed at the first place. Upload a GIF file and you'll see the message.
Cannot use .gif for avatars. Please use a jpg or png file!
In my opinion, I don't mind people use animated avatars as long as they aren't distracting to the eyes (e.g. strobes).

Pretty sure I've seen a couple animated avatars around...

Pretty sure they're also forbidden, though

.gifs have never been available. However, you can use animated pngs and jpegs, although when I tried it, I couldn't get it to work.

.apng is a dead format that apparently only firefox supports (go ff)
the .jpeg format has no inherent support for animation

Well I guess that's enough information and it should be clear that anyone shouldn't be using them anymore.
