jipped out of my pp >.>

Hey, so I recently beat this song and on the website it says that I got 143 PP from it. I beat it on stream and got 0 PP here is the highlight its at the very beginning first song I paly:

you can see on stream I only gained 30 pp, am I missing something or not understanding the ranked system or is this an osu problem?

TL;DR that's not how PP works, there is a net gain, you don't just retrieve the raw amount listed in your top ranks.

As you can see, you don't always gain "raw amount" of the plays pp-value. Thats what the weighted score indicates.

Lets make an example here. Player X has 3 valid plays. Each of these plays has a raw worth of 100pp. The percentages for someone with only 3 plays go like this btw: https://osu.ppy.sh/u/5335532 . (Similarly, someone with 4 plays would have the factors 1, 0.95, 0.9, 0.86)
So far, Player X has a stunning total pp of 285.
100*1 (100%)
+ 100*0.95 (95%)
+ 100*0.9 (90%)
Now Player X gets very lucky and manages to get a 4th play, which is worth 200pp. Since the highest play gets the highest multiplier, his lesser plays will shift down. His scoreboard would now look like this:
200*1
+ 100*0.95
+ 100*0.9
+ 100*0.86
giving him a total pp of 471.

As you can see, player X didn't gain 200pp, but only 186. That is because his 100pp plays "shift down" and consequently get a lower multiplier.
You will gain even less, since you have many more plays that are shifting down every time you get a high ranked play. Thats why you ended up only getting 30pp out of it.

was this to eliminate pp farming? And also this means that I got .2 of the value that seems weird to me.

not quite. It just puts emphasis on the players upper skill bound, since the players "best" plays count more. pp-farming is still possible, it just doesn't yield that much of a comparative advantage.

there's no way you didnt notice you werent getting full pp for stuff and figure it out on your own long before this, this is just a bragging thread
