Doubletaps

Hello i am very new to osu!mania, and those long ones you have to press, i think they are called sliders, some have some weird thing on them like another square, so that means i have to doubletap them?
I tried without doubletapping and then i get "okay"
but if i doubletap i get "cool"
so what is the point of this and am i wrong in this conclusion i have made
i am talking about these as seen on the picture, that are kinda "highlighted" so that you can see them

Hello,

I'm not a osu!mania player but I think I can explain you this.

The first square (bottom) shows you when you have to click. The second square (top) shows you when you have to release your key. In your case you have to press two keys at the same time, hold them, and when the (you called right) slider ends release them.
