its about beatmap backgrounds, just imo
as you know a lot of the bgs the community uses in mapping is fanart drawn by other people (this also includes photography and any other art used as bgs) and almost all of the time i see nobody credits the original artist for their hard work as they use their drawing. Ill admit i do this too, where i find an image off google and use as my maps bg, too lazy to find the original artist, but when i do know the artist i will always give credit for their work i am using in my maps because i draw a little myself and understand for some people how it awful it feels when someone takes your drawing and never credits you, (also a lot of them are great artists so they deserve to be checked out on their pixiv, deviantart or whatever) this happened to some of my friends where we literally saw the maps using their art coming into the ranked section, although it was cool at first that their art is on osu it saddened them that the bg was sort of used as a tool in a way to decorate the beatmap or at times even edited into something (e.g removing signature and adding designs and filters )without permission, for comparison this is like if someone stole your map and changed a few notes then reuploaded imo; but it may not the mappers fault at all for a lot of the time, some artists love when their art is showcased to thousands of people even without credit or maybe the mapper just didnt know. Just like how we credit the singers and songwriters in the 'artists' space i feel we should also include the artist that drew the bgs in our maps in the map description whenever possible. Of course im not forcing everybody to start doing this, but by reading this post i hope some of you will consider this the next time you use a fan drawn background, thats all the reason i am writing this post for.
