After a short conversation with a few people, I realised that there was no actual rule/guideline on the proper use of tags. The only one mentioning tags is:

The information of multiple mapset contributors must be provided in the mapset, if there is any guest mapper. This might be in the creator's words, via a storyboard or via naming the guest difficulties appropriately. You only need to provide information of guest mapper and corresponding guest part. Guest mappers must be added to the tags of a mapset. This helps others to know if the map uploader is the main contributor of the mapset and who else contributed to the given mapset.
I firmly believe some sort of regulation should be added in order to prevent any abusive usage of this feature.

The tags of the mapset must be coherent with the song and its source. Only add relevant information such as the name of the album; romanisation of the artist/title/source; popular abbreviations of the source; character names if the song is a specific character's theme; music genre or language if not already available in the default settings; etc;
I'm bad at writing rules.

Your thoughts?

It prevents abuse so I don't see why not.

this would be good, considering it gets really irritating when you're trying to find something and it's not tagged. :/

This is pretty common sense already, better to just sort through the tags during the modding process to eliminate goofs. Its not like there is widespread tag-misusage or something

I'd rather offer up a guideline that gives what is and what is not good to put in the tags, like the stuff you have mentioned already.

Definitely does seem like common sense, perhaps the current rule should just be edited to include 'only add relevant information', and then add a guideline as Lust mentioned.

Should also add a guideline to encourage including these:
relevant information such as the name of the album; romanisation of the artist/title/source; popular abbreviations of the source; character names if the song is a specific character's theme; music genre or language if not already available in the default settings; etc;
Too many maps I can't search for by abbreviated source (try searching for https://osu.ppy.sh/s/243986 with SAO) or a romanization (can't find https://osu.ppy.sh/s/60581 by searching "chuunibyou") because the mapper didn't include tags that a lot of people will search b y.

Common sense is not so common to everyone trust me, even for BAT members :P

A guideline is fine too. We just need something that mentions tags.

And also the arranger/composer and everyone who worked on the song

I saw a BN abusing tags.

Not gonna tell which BN did it. So yeah, amending this should reduce the abusive usage of tags.

what about background image artist?

Well.. are you searching maps for backgrounds? And how big is the chance that someone knows this (no offense to the ones who do it)? It's still allowed.. but I don't think that this should be like in the rules.
Wafu
I don't think it is needed, it's just common sense and if really someone cannot use such a simple common sense, he should not be a BN. If the tag is something what will help players to find the map, it is okay, if it is unrelated to the song or map, it will be just removed. Actually I doubt BN will not notice tag like: "best map 2016 only for asians".

@Irreversible I agree that not many people will know the artist, but however, wouldn't that even kick off storyboard artists, because you come to play map, not the storyboard?
Lust
Seems like the discussion has come to a halt. Common sense is applied in this case and is evaluated by the QAT upon checking in the qualified state.

Flaming.
