More control over in-game beatmap comments

A lot of people I talk to don't know what I'm talking about when I mention beatmap comments—they're the side scrolling comments that show up, at the timestamp in the song when they were entered, when you watch someone play a map/replay, with Discussion -> Show comments enabled.

Most of them are either
  1. retarded ("AAAAAAAAAA..." spam in Big Black),
  2. hilarious to some (those [̲̅$̲̅(̲̅ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°̲̅)̲̅$̲̅] NEED CASH? [̲̅$̲̅(̲̅ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°̲̅)̲̅$̲̅] comments on every popular map),
  3. in a foreign language,
  4. parroting the song lyrics (Pretender lyrics "WHAT IF I SAID I'M NOT LIKE THE OTHERS"),
  5. repeating a catchy/memorable line in the song ("MAWARE MAWARE MAWARE MAWARE", "DADADADADADADADADADA"),
  6. or pointing out something surprising/noteworthy in the video (You hear that? That's the sound of thousands of fangirls seeing Rin in the video. Also most eroge videos during the sexy frames).
Beatmap comments are basically the Twitch chat of osu.

Anyways (don't mind my long-winded introduction), at least for regular users, the comments appear anonymous and unmoderated. Since it's anonymous, people get away with saying whatever shit they want. The anime songs' comments often contain spoilers (some asshole wrote a major SAO spoiler in my courage map), and I also noticed this gem on iMage--'s Oracion:

We should have a system to report comments, see who wrote them, or remove our own. What kind of comments should be removed is another story (spoilers don't really break any rules), but there are some that definitely shouldn't be there and I don't know if anybody can take them down.

Fully support this. I turned off the comments a long time ago because of this mainly. If this game is all aged then we need to control the comments as well and punish users (in the future).

I agree to editing and removing our own comments. Maybe only taking action against repeat offenders who spam the comments and just removing the comment the first time it occurs.
Edit: For supporters, also being able to change the color of the comments we've posted would be nice.

So what would you want to see on the comments instead? If you want to have a serious conversation about the beatmap do you really think a permanent side scrolling time stamped comment section is the best place to do that? No? Then how about use the IRC or forums instead.

The reason people post that is because some people do enjoy it. If you dont enjoy it just turn it off and use any of the other places to discuss since there is literally no other place that is not moderated. Its not like you would want to use this for anything you find interesting anyway so why take fun from others for no gain.

You can't be serious. So you basically telling us to ignore any pornographic comment. Just tell me, what is fun about "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" or about what is on that picture posted in the op. I personally think its nothing. This can be posted anywhere anytime. The reason these post are made because nobody moderates this part of the game. This is only for feedback to the map/mapset's creator in-game.

On the other hand, we already can add comments to the maps on the forum, it would be nice to merge the two into one and what is posted on the forum would be show in-game and viceversa.

You sound like one of those responsible for a lot of the comments. I enjoy plenty of the comments, but some of them are terrible and you shouldn't be having fun posting those.

The only ones that make me pretty annoyed are ones with links. whether it be to porn or scams or anything. Maybe add that to your list?

This would work too. I've seen comments which would be innapropriate for the game which people would post on the forum. I would say only things that wouldn't be innapropriate in the forum in the correct context should be moderated if this were to happen
Edit: To clear confusion, not really things that wouldn't be innapropriate, but are relevant to the conversation (ie with people going on about the anime girl background, a comment telling them that we already know about the character's breast size would be fine).

Complete support on this one.
Some comments are just... (can't find words to describe it...)

Also, when one watches a replay/Auto/spectates someone, the "spam" comments are really bothersome, yet I don't think just disabling the comments is the right option, since one can read from there thoughts from others about map (sometimes).

Without more words, take my stars (as soon as I can shoot them, lol).

you cant be serious you have ranked like 10 000 beatmaps with sexually suggestive BGs/storyboard/video and the lyrics of some songs are just you know. Then you worry about that there are pornographic comments what? Also maybe a comment limit would be a better suggestion since if there are 50 comments on top of each other what difference does it make is it just As or some 10/10 writing.

As a bonus here is what this game would look like if BATs were in charge of desing

Or maybe 100 comments saying DADADADADAADADADDAD in the forums is the better part.
You really think people want to see stuff like this instead. Why dont you just stick to ranking maps, you guys are getting really good at that.

I'm not sure if you are speaking about me or the entire BAT group but this is not the place for this kind of talk. Just to make it clear, we never ranked something which contained pornographic image or lyrics, not since I'm a BAT at least. Mistakes were made in the past but thats the past, nothing was perfect.

Comments are not for modding. These can be removed as well, but the main topic here isn't about this. And Im not sure from where those comments came since I don't have the map but on the beatmap page there is nothing like these. And nobody said BATs needs to be charged, I'm only participating in this because I think this part of the game needs some moderation as well.

Go to Off-Topic and just post DADADADADA everywhere, its allowed there and leave the comments part alone.

sounds like a plan, but it would be difficult to sort out good and bad comments for every single beatmap out there, I usually do enjoy seeing them random comments as long as they don't go as far as making it sound offensive

but advertisement is probably on my most hated list

btw I really like how chinese people rewrote the korean song lyrics by the pronounciation

Want to read decent comments about your map -> forum
Don't want to see pointless ones -> turn it off
And why would you even try to rewrite link if you know it's nsfw? ( If it's really that bad, someone here already mentioned that it's possible to remove comments)

It looks like every map has had their comments wiped, that's too bad, I really enjoyed reading some of those. They were hilarious. I'm really dissapointed with this.

Why is Big Black still a comments clutter?
I don't think it happened on all maps then (as there are still people talking about old banned people (Cookiezi, Legendre))

I always thought those comments were for semi-modding stuff, feedback. Like, one player saying that this pattern *right now* is akward to play... and id like to have the comments to be used this way so i support moderated comments.
