Why is it one of the 7 deadly sins to request a beat map? I remember making the post related to that and people reacted like it was the end of the world :I

Cause if you can't be bothered to try to make one yourself, why should other people?

Can you imagine how many requests there would be clogging up the forums if such a thing were allowed? And its not like anyone is going to fulfill them most of the time anyway.

The mods need to set the precedent where requests shouldn't be allowed on the forums so that people will not think it is right to make them - which can explain for the tone of the rejection posts (people should really read the stickies anyway).

Because mapping is hard. Trust me, I've tried.

It takes tens of hours of hard work and dedication to create a mapset, get mods for it, apply mods, and IRC with people in the process of getting it ranked. Doyou think somebody is gonna do that for anything other than the song they love wholeheartedly? What reason do they have to go through all that for a random song on YouTube that some random guy linked?

^ Don't trust the bolded text, this won't work. Once you've done it, all they have to do is to say "no".

Well some people posses I skill i dont have as much as I'm trying to learn how to make it it's pretty hard, buy yeah you're right on that part

Everyone starts at the bottom with horrible maps before they make good ones. Either you put in effort to learn how to map whatever songs you like, or wait until someone maps it in the future.

The best shot is to find some advanced mappers that have a good chance to love the song as well, and poke them directly to say something in a form of recommendation, like "hey I got some really cool music that you might love, wanna take a listen to it?" But the chance is still high that they find it just not inspiring or motivating enough for them to try to map one.

Just look at what Lust said. Sure, you might think your one request isn't doing any harm on its own, but you're being selfish if you think of it in terms of you being the only one to do that. Nobody gets any special privileges to make personal requests on the board and you're not an exception. The requests thread would have been the solution, but it only resulted in futile hope and a lot of noise.

The best way to get someone else to map is to get to know good mappers. Know how much free time they have, what their tastes are and how quickly they can work. Personally, if a good friend were to ask me to map something I'd enjoy, then I'd probably do it. They'd enjoy playing it, I'd enjoy mapping it and I'd be able to enjoy a decent conversation with them while I'm at it. Plus, I'd have enough incentive.

Why are requests so annoying these days? It's because people have to be told again and again about something they'd know if they actually read pinned threads. Usually, they'll be corrected and let that be the end of it, but some people don't know how to do that and they try to argue their case until we have to go through the same routine over and over again.

Selfish? I'm not holding them at gunpoint forcing them to make beat maps. I'm just saying if there was a board with song requests would be pretty neat. then we can see or have an idea of what the community wants, instead of having no other choice than what the beat mappers make. I understand beat maps are very hard to make, but it would be nice seeing songs that wasn't entirely anime.. not that there anything wrong with anime

There used to be a beatmap request thread.

Also, if you want new maps that badly, make your own. Mapping takes effort and time.

And if there was a board with map requests, who would map them?

There use to be a beatmap request thread but it got removed since none of the requests hardly ever got completed
No one is gonna do it for you and get it ranked so you might aswell take the time to take up mapping yourself and rank the song yourself
Mapping can be a lot of fun even if you don't know all of the ropes. During the modding process you will learn a lot about mapping >w<
kouzuki_karen
maybe ask a close friend if they can map it for you

or map it yourself for graveyard, then you can be happy that a map was made for your favourite song

For some reason every time people make threads like these, they always use the word "neat" and that frightens me.

I wasn't calling you selfish as if to imply that you're expecting everyone to make maps for you. I said that because you didn't think, for one moment, that maybe there aren't any visible threads discussing the issue for a reason and that you're not the only person to have tried to weasel maps out of people. Maybe I wouldn't be so disproportionately hostile if you didn't keep trying to argue your case after every other person in this thread's explained why we don't do requests on the board.

In your defense, the staff like to be overly polite in their pinned threads, with "there is no place to make requests" being nothing more than a passing mention in the GD rules thread. However, while I sometimes detest responses along the lines of "use the search function you idiot," a quick search brings up a wealth of failed request threads from people who didn't bother to check.

[invalid] Some beatmaps requests

No. You can't request a beatmap anywhere. Just make it yourself or wait for someone to make it
Also, from the third hit from entering "requests" into the search field:

Sadly, there is no place to request a Beatmap, here's a link to the old thread:
Beatmap Song Requests
If you read through the old thread, you'll quickly realize that very few of these request were ever fulfilled, so even if you request a beatmap, it will probably be in vain. As a results, please do the following:

First of all, try searching to see if the song you want mapped already exists. Second, you could always try mapping something yourself! It's not too hard with a little basic knowledge of how the editor works. Try reading the FAQ (specifically the Editing section) if you're entirely clueless. RIP beatmap request thread.

You can try asking some of your friends or people in chat that are looking for new things to map but for the most part if you don't want to map it then you are just going to have to wait patiently until someone else decides to do it.
...Maybe I'm getting a little carried away.

Can we not just leave a thread pinned on every subforum, with the title, "THERE IS NOWHERE TO REQUEST BEATMAPS," without worrying about being polite? When it's stated explicitly and the thread explains exactly why people should stop even asking about it, then nobody will have an excuse to keep asking irritating questions about it and any relevant threads can be closed immediately.

If you want more song diversity, then make something happen from the bottom up. Look at good examples of English maps and learn how to map similarly, take the time to get involved in the creative process and the community. If you can make something that's notably good, then people will notice and other mappers may be inspired to take your song choices and get some kind of trend going. Many current mappers will just map whatever they like or pander to the community's preference for squeaky crap and wobble noises... Or really bland DnB.

Seriously though, nothing's stopping you from having a go at mapping. You might even enjoy it. If you're putting this much effort into asking us why we can't have a place for requests, then you'll probably be able to commit to a map. Make 2015 the year you get into mapping and have a good time with it.
