Brawl vs. Melee

The cliche question: Which do you like better? Brawl, or Melee? Why?

Let the EPIC debate begin! :)

Personally, I prefer Melee. I'm very competitive about the game, and Brawl feels too floaty. Also, randomly tripping into your opponent's attacks is NOT what I classify as fun.

The main flaw in Brawl is tripping - no doubt.

Melee is faster, and geared more toward competitive people, like me. I can see why Brawl might gain some appeal (online, smoother graphics, etc.), but for me, it's all about Melee. :P

Brawl by a landslide.

As purist as Melee is, Brawl is just that extra bit better in terms of gameplay and stage arrangements, plus I don't think I could live without playing Wolf in a SSB game anymore.

Oh, and tripping isn't completely random. It was introduced to end some of the bullshit momentum shifts that higher tier Melee players were famous for pulling off.

Brawl, I like the spit and polish. I'm also not that competitive, I play casual games with friends.
Extra characters are nice also.

Brawl, even though I never really got into it. Waiting for Brawl was way more fun than actually playing it.

Brawl is much more of a blast to play with friends. The stages you can make, the randomness, and some of the characters really just make it fun when played with the right people. I do however, like to play Melee in a competitive state as I find it more suited for competition.

Also, random characters and random stages = potentially awesome matches.

I suppose I have no choice but to give it to Brawl, its the only
one I own atm XD But imo it doesn't win by a great deal compared
to Melee.

I would say my preferences are about:
Brawl: 50%
Melee: 40%
(XD) 64: 10%

I added 64 cause going classic sometimes is more fun ^^
Dont know why that is tho.

I also forget to mention that it is waaaay too easy to unlock everything in Brawl, part of the fun in Melee was trying to get everything in it.
MegaManEXE
Melee by miles
Propeller_Cap
Brawl, but that's only because I don't have Melee or 64. XD

Still, Brawl has more characters, more stages, a freaking STORY MODE, and overall more fun to play with friends in general.

Daaaaang. I searched for "Brawl" and "Melee", but I only got about a million pages with a bunch of beatmaps. :?

So, I apologize for the duplicate topic.

Actually, I love Smash 64. It's short, a bit bland, and none of the stages are all that great, but it's still a blast to play.

And I will agree Brawl is a better party game and it's a bit easier to get into, whereas Melee sorta just... wants you to be good from the get-go.

I like Brawl more. I am way better at Melee than I am at Brawl but Brawl is somehow more fun D:

Melee because of captain falcon.

It was introduced to end some of the bullshit momentum shifts that higher tier Melee players were famous for pulling off.
Actually the only thing it would have stopped from melee is dash dancing, thats it, just dash dancing.

Just.

Dash.

Dancing.

Most of the shit was fixed by changing the game mechanics completely.

Don't rationalize stupid ideas.

Lukewarm, don't forget the awesome Moonwalk -> Upsmash with Fox. That's always fun. But it's always best to moonwalk with Captain Falcon. And yes, dash dancing is fun.
Melee is awesome, Brawl has too many lame characters(Fuck your Lucario, I got Mewtwo).
lukewarmholiday
moonwalking doesnt exist in brawl so tripping wouldnt help alleviate that.

It's a shitty mechanic that only hinders people who want to have some consistency in fights for TOP TYRE GAMIN.
Bestelle
Even without tripping people would still spam the hell out of you in Brawl.
See: Falco, and Snake. And just about everyone else.

I don't play brawl that much, or melee either for that matter, but I used to play melee competitively.

Competitive playing was just so much more fun, in my opinion.
Pokebis
For competitive play, Melee.
For fun content, Brawl.

Melee is fun from time to time when I feel like going back to super broken Falco but overall brawl by far. Gameplay's a bit more balanced and reasonable, most of the stages are better (but fuck that huge Earthbound level) and it is deliciously hackable for game mechanic tweaks + reskins + customized characters

pretty sure tripping is disabled on my brawl

HOW? o.o

Using Gecko or whatever it's called?

I didn't know such a hack existed.

Sucks that my brother won't let me hack our Wii... >.>

Well, whoever made that hack is pretty much awesome. :P

Hm?
Falco gets destroyed by Marth, Peach, Jigglypuff(sometimes), and Captain Falcon. Also, a simple shine on the edge by Fox can kill him at 0%. Yeah.

never happened to me before

It doesn't happen all the time, as long as the Fox grabs you and tosses you out, a good shine will gimp you.

I met lunin online a long time ago.. Shame he let that one go.

Anyways, when you're up against someone good in melee, it gives you the chills; swear to god when I had the chance to play a few friendlies with Darc.

But if I posted that I'd feel too typical. D:
