That's because planks are more suited for people who are already fit and buff. For those who aren't, it puts more strain towards their body and can be more damaging rather than helpful.
lol shit I'm not buff though. Just athletic. I play basketball regularly but it requires like little to no upper body strength aside from shooting hoops/passing. Planks are the bane of my existence

Since summer break, I've turned into a real life sloth. ; - ;
I don't exercise, eat junk food + a shit ton of sweets.
You can imagine how much weight I gained lmao :'(
I'm starting school today, so that means I'll be getting back to volleyball practice as well (I have practice today at 8 PM ), so I'm really happy about that.
Volleyball is my everything, seriously.
I'd risk my limbs for it if I had to, that's how much I love this sport.
Well, as you all know, it's a sport that requires moving around the field a lot and 'falling' down (lmao what) to keep the ball in play.
I really really want to get fit and have a nice figure because every time I'm in the dressing room, I feel embarrassed because of my weight and that my jersey doesn't look good on me. ; ;
I feel extremely self-conscious because when I look at the other girls, they all have a nice figure and are almost all fit.
I'm not planning to go on a extreme diet or something like that.
I'll cut off the sweets and junk food to a minimal and instead eat home cooked food.
I want to practice volleyball at home too, but we're in an apartment so it'll bother the other neighbors. :c
Aside from that, what are some good tips to staying healthy & fit?
I want to hear your opinions.

It's my dream to look like this one day ; - ;
Read this: http://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

It basically explains everything you need to stay healthy, and consider doing some exercises relevant to volleyball ( search them on google/reddit there are plenty of exercises you can do for volleyball)
Try ask you neighbors for your practice, ask for a time of the day where they are not home or they maybe simply dont care.

If you need help by any means please use this thread or send me a pm we'll be happy to help you!! :D :D

Bruhh, 75 is meant to be normal.
kirueggy
There's nothing you can do really to improve upper body strength when all you do is just play basketball. I need some specific shit here people I didn't skip leg day but I did skip everything normal lmao

If you're not going to lift then do at least 200 push ups every day. It doesn't matter when you do it, it can be 10 sets of 20 push-ups spread throughout the day or 4 sets of 50, as long as you do 200.

And don't you dare think about passing a day, don't be lazy.
kirueggy
Sounds like something a guy who takes ROTC too seriously would do. How will and how fast will this help improve my upper body strength? I want to be able to do 75 push ups on the spot (and possibly beat my English teacher while I'm at it)

Timely.

Was just incidentally starting to get back into shape here.
At my peak, 500 push-ups a day 50 at one go, split into 10 small sessions throughout the day, before any meal and before any bath with any remainder promptly
finished before the day ended (or before I got comfortable for bed anyway)

Past few months I've been lazing around too much and become a bit too lean for my liking.

Also 75 all at once is rather tough.
Highest I ever went was 70 and by the time it was 50++ I was in the red.
Talking about when doing your posture is back straight and arms fully extended.

The thing about push-ups is that there are many different ways you can do them, allowing you to workout different parts of your upper body. The farther you extend your arms away from your shoulders the more strain you put on your chest, so if you want to workout chest then extend your arms farther. The closer your arms to the middle, the more strain it puts on your triceps etc etc.
Faust
That is correct.

Was speaking in terms of the 'proper standard' in my country. (Used for grading)
Arms not fully extended and sloppy posture are no-counts, etc.

Making push ups with a really good form is totally different with a bad form that's why, one that does 50 good push ups can do like 150 bad push ups ya feel me
Faust
Again, yes.

Hence the emphasis.
I find sloppiness rather disgusting, and when you get to exercises like crunches and push-ups you either look fantastic or a complete retard, the latter especially.

You know what I mean..

I really can't see myself going to a gym, definitely. If I was to start bodybuilding it'd be at home, alone. I just think the whole idea of lifting or whatever the activity for hour(s) is too much for me to do.

I'd love to get into it so if anybody wants to try convince me otherwise, reply to this and go ahead.

Well. In the end it's got to be about what you want for yourself personally.

There's a lot more to do in a gym than lift weights yes, though I doubt you'd be going at anything for hours on end unless you're already extremely fit anyway..

Getting in shape has many approaches, if that's more appealing to you than simply bodybuilding.
Gym can be a good place to ask for advice/get a buddy so really all up to you.

I encourage you to start lifting man, you can start slowly and if stop whenever you realize what your goal is.
Remind that a good workout is a not counted on hours but on how effective you make it

If you workout life will take a turn probably, in the long run people will change their mind about you, respect you

You get tired less and my more things, if you have anything particular just ask man

Seriously, it's better to start at the gym because they have the proper equipment to get you started and if you are worried about not doing exersices correctly you can watch videos on how to do them. They are plenty of website you can find to help you get started.

As I was deadlifting today, during my last rep, I let out a loud scream to get the weight up. When I was done, this very buff guy approached me and started complimenting me saying he was impressed by my deadlift at that age, and that I could break records in a few years if I kept training. It had such a huge impact on me. I had never gotten a compliment of that sort - someone more experienced than I am complimenting and recognizing my hard work. I'm going through a shitty time in my life too, and that really helped me keep my morale up. It's amazing how lifting literally changed my life.

Extensive workout habits and general changes in lifestyle are a way to process bad things. By any means, it is your own power that keeps you going. Keep it up!

I can't seem to understand why people skip leg day sometimes (jokes aside). Then again it may be just me considering how all I mostly do is basketball leg stuff is nothing to me but keeping your legs in shape isn't that hard, people. I may have big calves but I do have calf muscles lol

It's the most painful bodypart to train, if you can suffer that pain then you will conquer your physique

I can do all of these with little - no problem. Does this mean I'm better than most when it comes to leg stuff? Practice makes perfect; plus I only started doing leg exercises because I wanted to get rid of my fatty calves bc my nike elite socks would always be a bitch when playing because they'd always slide down and that would tick me off for some reason

Attempted a 195kg dl. Midway through the lift I felt sudden intense pain in the right side of my lower back and that shit nearly paralyzed me for a second. I took a 10 days break from deadlifting AND squatting specifically because my lower back hurt but it looks like I haven't solved the issue. Maybe I should get a belt

After suffering from eating disorders for over 5 years I decided to make a change in my life. I just couldn't stand looking at myself in the mirror anymore. I started working out and eat right this January.

When I started my weight was around 63kg. I am 190 tall so I looked like a skeleton.

Now when I write this I weigh 82kg. So I have almost gained 20kg this year so far. I can see a huge difference, and looking myself in the mirror isn't as bad anymore!

I have to admit that it wasn't easy in the beginning. But when I started to notice the difference on my body I got so motivated and it gave me a huge boost.

Nowadays I love going to the gym, it's a place where I can "relax" (even though I lift haha) listen to good music and have a nice chat with the other people there!

Way to go man and good job! It's always the beginning the hardest part when you start to workout but once you get past that, the gym can be a very enjoyable place! Keep it up and don't forget legs day!

Injured my back. GG

Im just going to bench and OHP for now, also going to add assistance and bodybuilding style movements I guess. I'll squat / dl again after 3-4 weeks

I really hope this is not going to reappear forever...

I already swim for 2 hours in the morning and in the afternoon x-country practice for 2 hours, and finally I constantly go to the gym

Never skipping leg day is as easy as getting an bike and regulary going biking. Bridge or hill ahead? Great, theres your leg day training, take it on, dont step down from your bike and walk.

No, really, bikes are great for keeping you fit in general, provided you actually use your bike every other day for one or two hours. Go bike around your town, one round completly around it, always on the town borders. Just do it.

Watch your form. I can't stress this enough. Quality over quantity, always... But you probably already know this now.
With deadlifting, your form has to be perfect. Any kink anywhere in your form will show up, and you definitely don't want to fuck your back.

If you're in doubt, feel free inbox me and I'll help you out so you can avoid future injury and maximize gains.

The initial step of getting yourself into the gym in shit shape is probably the hardest. Good job with that, and it's probably meaningless to you coming from someone you don't even know but I'm proud of you!
