HP drain

If there's one thing everyone here hates it's HP drain. So why do people use values above 7? It's complete overkill and can completely ruin beatmaps for anyone who can't 300 every single note. I really think it should be capped out at 7, like CS is. What are your thoughts on HP drain and how it should be used?

Drain enforces a minimum accuracy, albeit in a roundabout sort of way. I see no issue with this function.

HP value barely has an effect on drain.

@OP
High drain values means the mapper wants you to be actually accurate when playing their map, instead of mashing your way through

then explain why I can easily pass a map at hp10 with bad accuracy, and other maps with a lower HP value I can't pass.

Good point there. This map https://osu.ppy.sh/b/116006 for example has HP9 and is easy to pass, while the [Another] of this https://osu.ppy.sh/b/383536 has HP7 and it feels much more punishing when you miss or have low accuracy. Why is that, I have always wondered.

I have failed hp10 maps without even breaking combo before, simply because my accuracy was less than 95%. The same map at hp7 would've been extremely easy to pass with that accuracy.

I have hp10 passes with 88% accuracy.

i have 81%

Because HP drain also scales on the object density...

If you don't want to fail play nofail. If you want pp, you don't deserve it for a sub 95% score. If you had to get 97%+ accuracy to get pp, people wouldn't suck so much from grinding out shitty 96% DT scores all day. Be glad that this isn't the case and you do get rewarded marginal amounts of prescription for shitty accuracy plays.

hp is fine. maybe combo color is

https://osu.ppy.sh/s/45760 Hp7 but still hp drain like soul sacrifice
theramdans
the HP recovery is affected by the length of the combo
it means higher HP with a dense sequence of notes need to be balanced by adding short combos, vice versa, just for the sake of balance

I always play no fail until I can feel confortable playing with out it

I was just saying I do it until I feel confortable with out it, so why is it a bad move?

He probably meant the negative part of turning no fail on, which is passing with low accuracy

No fail can be useful if I want to play the whole map and not start all-over again just because of one slider break

@ontopic: I see no issue with this except for not being able to revive after dying
ScxrletRose
does HP affect your pp? Like AR, CS and OD
lewski
