My brother keeps telling me to watch Old Boy, so it is probably good.

I will try to avoid naming obvious good movies:

Tekkon Kinkreet is a pretty interesting movie with a cool blend of CGI and classic hand-drawn art.

Batman. (The original, Adam West)

Coraline

Crank/Crank 2

Doomsda-wait a second de ja vu we've done this before

If you are talking about the one where a man gets imprisoned by another, then Old Boy is definitely Korean

and Hangover has got to be the best movie ever
Xgor
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Life of Brian
Meaning of life
Star Wars (4,5,6)
Die Hard

Might post more later

olawds a movie thread. Adding my support for Oldboy, Memento, and Fight Club, for sure.

As far as other movies are concerned:

A Tale of Two Sisters
Jacob's Ladder
Strange Circus
Let The Right One In
Vital
Pan's Labyrinth
The Orphanage
Audition
Suicide Club and Noriko's Dinner Table, as a package deal
Paprika
The Princess Bride

by the way I hope you like horror, or a lot of my list won't appeal to you
If anything, I'd recommend A Tale of Two Sisters, Jacob's Ladder, and Vital above the rest.
Bestelle
Pulp Fiction(Encouraged)
Fight Club(^)
May
Die Hard
Rocky Horror Picture Show(It's actually fun to watch with some friends)

I would mention more, but I'm currently lazy.

oh can't forget the Boondock Saints
Garnet_old_1
King Kong (Many versions, most are good)
Metropolis (Silent film, but a very great one)

I'd list a bunch of horror films from the forties and back, like The Wolfman and The Invisible Man. But I'll keep it short since I can't really say I have any favorites. But these are the ones that have left a significant imprint in my brain.

Cat Soup (Nekojiru-Sou)

Do it. I'd personally like to expand my classic horror movie repertoire.

I said only list the bestest/ There was couple really good ones in your list but it felt like you were starting to just list good movies :P

awp wrote:

Great movie, did you see BoondockSaintsII though? I saw the dvd release but haven't watched it yet.

Forrest Gump is another classic anyone should see imo.
A lot of great movies listed, gj guys :>

Another movie I forgot to list that I enjoyed a lot (one of the rare movies I've watched more than once) is
The Prestige
Also, if you like that movie, you'd probably also like "The Illusionist" which is quite similar.
The Machinist is nice mindfuck movie too

EDIT: and yes, I have no idea why I said japanese :<, it's definitely korean.

Oh, then I probably listed what I know are pretty entertaining since they're the first that came out of my head, I would have said others but they were already listed by other people which would look pretty redundant, but yeah those are my recent watches that I really thought are pretty great to recommend people with :P

B-but, that's the whole point of the thread. If you see already posted movies, post them again, so we can get a nice ranking of the best movies, not just a huge list of meh movies.

I know that more indie/underground movies will have a hard time making it up there, but still.

oh damn I should read carefully more

OK I also support Pulp Fiction, Tropic Thunder, Fight Club, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Star Wars Original Trilogy, Watchmen, Sin City, Blues Brothers, Alien, Dr. Strangelove, Crank, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, Die Hard, Paprika, Jacob's Ladder, Boondock Saints, Stalker, The Thing, Slumdog Millionaire, Up and Cat Soup.

lol that's a lot but I can safely say I watched all of them and still watch them from time to time because of their awesomeness, also add in The Hurt Locker & Reservoir Dogs.
Rolled
Rent
Twilight
A walk to remember

On a less gay note, Requiem for a Dream. Watch it now. American History X also, but you've already seen that.

Right, requiem for a dream and trainspotting were both amazing drug related movies.
American History X was also a very good movie

I'd also add Snatch to the list, because I love the accent, specially Brad Pitts.
He was amazing at acting back then, also in 12 monkeys, he aced that role.
IBlacKStaR
let me think...

V FOR VENDETTA!!
I LOVE IT!! :)
Esupanitix
INB4 Jarto (that wasn't a suggestion, just that's not a movie.)
My suggestion would be Liar Liar.
Mogsy
I feel like I should add some movies that aren't horror to this list.

Kabluey
Les triplettes de Belleville
Idiocracy
Heathers
Thank You For Smoking
Teeth (I don't classify it as horror but as black comedy)
Lizbeth

@mogsy: Idiocracy? Really??
it's honestly one of the shittiest movies I've ever seen.
I'll admit, the first 5minutes, and the idea of the movie was great, but the movie itself was a major waste of time.
I honestly wouldn't recommand anyone watching it :
That's the only movie from that list that I had seen, and now I'm starting to doubt the entire list >.>
Mogsy
@Ph0X: Honestly, it's a dumb movie, and it's been awhile since I've seen it, but maybe I just took absolutely none of it seriously. It's not for everyone and a lot of humor boils down to "lol there dum", but I thought it wasn't terrible for a new comedy. Still, it's the worst film on that list.

If you don't like the eighties, avoid Heathers.
If you can't stand genre fakeouts, avoid Teeth.
If you hate comedies and somewhat touching stories, avoid Kabluey.
If you despise animation and need constant amounts of dialogue, avoid Les triplettes de Belleville. That and Kabluey are my two favourite movies on this list though and recommend them to anyone who enjoys good film.
MMzz
Suggestion: Donnie Darko.

And I vote for fight club, that movie was fucking awsome.
Mogsy
A few new recommendations from me this time around. However, I'd like to support some previous recommendations:

Requiem for a Dream
Pulp Fiction
Boondock Saints
Cat Soup
The Wall
500 Days of Summer
V for Vendetta
Donnie Darko
Army of Darkness

The only suggestions I'm going to make this time are horror. Granted it's the one genre I watch the most, but these are fantastic ones:

Eraserhead
Videodrome
The Wicker Man (1973) (as in the one without Nicholas Cage)

two first are both great mindfuck movies.

Going through the oscar winners, one movie caught my eyes.
It's a short animation film (17minutes) called
Logorama
Was quite hard to find, the only place that had it was demonoid (of course, the last place I check is public trackers)

Almost every single frame is cleverly made.
It has pretty much every single logo you can imagine in it.
The voice/audio is pretty shitty, but the video is short and clever.
Worth a watch, might wanna mute the sound though.
Oh and wtb HD quality of it :(
Mogsy
Man, all I've done recently is write music and watch movies. Here, have some new suggestions.

In Bruges
Rampo Noir
Shutter Island

IMDB links added later, on iPod now.
Natteke
Requiem for a dream
