I USUALLY don't mind spectators, but when I'm FCing a difficult map and I notice the little spectator notification in the corner, it can throw me off sometimes; the spectator text just floats there like eyes watching your every move 
However I do like to know when I am being spectated. My solution for this would be to be able to toggle the spectator list to only appear during breaks. This would remove the constant distraction of the spectator list while you're playing, yet still let you know if someone is watching or not.
