Acting like an idiot in Osu! = not fun

When I was working on my map for Osu, I randomly decided to make an abnormally long slider while the song was playing. After a few seconds, the game crashed, my entire operating system lagged for a few minutes, and then I was presented with the broken vase of death. Afterwards, my operating system continued to lag. I had to open up task manager and end the osu!.exe process manually. When I re-opened Osu!, over half my map was gone.

With this event in mind, I have two suggestions: Save often and don't do idiotic things just for the fun of it.

Make fun of me all you want. Just wanted to tell you all my little story.

wouldn't this be an appropriate bug reports forum thread?

Not really. Because it was completely my fault. Anyone with a brain would know not to make a slider that's over a minute long, with multiple curving points and repeats, while the song was still playing.

lol! I've always wanted to see a really long slider that takes up the entre song! XD

idk it seems to me like you were using it exactly as intended. Sure, a minute-long slider is impractical and would make for a shitty beatmap, but you were in no way mis-using the "place slider" function, ergo, it should be considered a bug.

This post may seem like an outright attack on peppy (considering how little it impacts the software - super long sliders are dumb) but I HAVE A DUTY TO UPHOLD and since not everybody thinks like a programmer I feel obligated to help them along the way???

True, but that doesn't really sound like an easy thing to fix. I know next to nothing about programming, but I would guess that fixing that would mean re-writing the entire slider code. I don't really think it'll be really that high on the priority list.

that, or, limit slider length, which would be a couple lines of code (or so I figure)

Not a bug. Dependent on cpu/gpu power - and I don't really want to limit this.
