im watching this tutorial video and he must have an older version of Osu because i dont have a lead-in time option. my notes start right when the song starts. does anyone know where i can set the lead-in time??

Uhh.. the lead-in time is the offset. This is in the panel that appears when you click the "Timing" tab. Increase or decrease this number to change where the first beat lands. Also, the notes only start from where you first put them. It's impossible for the "notes to start when the song starts" unless you have notes right at the beginning of the song.
And if you're worrying about the notes starting immediately with the song, rest assured: osu! will put a short time before the song starts
