I'm actually in a similar situation. The only times I actually listen to music is when I play games.

Asking this question on a rhythm game forum will probably get you some biased answers... there are people who love them to death and those who damn them to hell, just like everything.
But yeah, I'm something of a rhythm game masochist; it's not fun unless a "maid of fire" reaction is possible at any given time.

I find it strange. However, sometimes I walk away from a rhythm game despising more new music than liking more.

I don't think it's strange at all. Probably the concentration and challenge from the game has a greater hold of you than the hatred of music you have? I wouldn't know, that's just my guess I mean I love music but I hate those very same songs when I listen while in a foreign country. For some reason the same music pisses me off.
