New movies are very bland

I watched clips of the new movie elio and holy cow I wish I never saw it in the first place (They even posted "behind the scenes" stuff which is omega cringe). My main gripe with these movies is the fact that the story is bland as hell. Idc how good it looks, if the story's boring, I'm out. (Variable opinion)

I used to watch this claymation movie. It was literally about a mouse dad trying to illegally cross countries on a boat and his son following in his dads' footsteps... (I don't think this was exactly it but it was something like this.)

Another good one is "The fantastic mr fox". It's much more mellow but still pulls no punches. It was kinda scary at some parts.

I feel like those movies were made in a way that leaves an impact on you. Good humor paired with a great story and a morale, leaving you wondering about it for months. I remember I watched encanto 2 years ago and I can remember absolutely nothing. Just the fact that it was a coco copy paste.

Idk I just wanted to get rid of that elio taste. Please recommend me some good movies and tell me why you liked 'em.

Movies nowadays are boring, series are way cooler and leaves a bigger impact

The only movies i watch are just the ones from an anime series that i like. Imo series hit much harder. The last movie i watch was like 3 years ago and it was "Soul" i think. Its pretty good as far as i remember (though i don't remember much) but you could check it out.

but I guess new movies suck and they lack soul and series are better and the future is dire and the present terrible, at some point we're just hating on the present for the sake of hating on the present

my god, if you're watching elio that's probably the worst thing you could be watching in this frankly amazing decade, you guys need to grow up from only watching the hit animated american blockbuster and actually start watching stuff

^ seconding above. your first mistake was watching the safe and marketable product and deciding it (and those like it) define all movies of the past few years. there's plenty of trash in every decade, you're just noticing it now and the human brain is very prone to overemphasing the prevalance of negatives

which isn't to say the complaints aren't valid, it's just not fair to generalise like that

this thread does remind me i've got a whole backlog of stuff i need to watch...

I stopped watching movies and TV long ago (as much as I used to at least). There are some personal reasons I don't want to get into.

One of them is a spiritual reason (Feel free to DM me if you're interested in that).

there are some real gems that have come out in the last couple years like "Drive My Car [2021]", "No Other Land [2024]", and "Monster [2023]" etc. you just have to look in the right places lol :D
