Now i know that the dev's opinions on ports is "if you can make it then do it if you want it that much" so this is not a "can we have a NS2 port" post, its more "how would this even work" post and a thread fuctioning as a "how would you feel if osu! got ported to NS2" thread
I just wanted to type out how i would feel about this and why i think this could work if someone wanted to make the port, so this is a very-unnecesary-wall-of-text type post.
If you don't know, its highly speculated that NS2 joycons will have mouse functionality - this is something that would make this piece of hardware viable for osu!.
Since on other consoles to have mouse functionality you need an external mouse they are not really viable to have an osu! port. Most people have those of course - but the fact you need it anyway is already making this not really a good idea.
This is only a semi-different scenario on PlayStation thanks to the touch pannel, but lets be real - anyone that ever had a PS knows that these are mostly used as an aditional button and for using them as a cursor is not great because they are unreliable in that, especially if you need fast precise movements (like, in osu!)
and Xbox is doesn't have anything similar so we'll ignore it
Ok, so assuming the leaks and speculations are real, NS2 already fixes the main problem for a port, but what would even be a reason for making this?
Basically, having osu! portable.
- But phones already exist wtf?
Having the optimise a game for a piece of hardware that it wasn't originaly made for isn't easy, and the fact that every single person on earth doesn't have the same phone makes this even harder because different hardware, drivers and even different branches of android made by different publishers that are only based on android.
Sure, the switch is also a different system, but unlike phones, every switch 2 will be the same hardware wise unless there will be a different version also made (like Switch Oled) but since most of the time these are the same power wise it would be fine.
This alone would make this easier to blindly implement and optimise rather than optimising it for android.
Also, if you havent noticed - a console has a controller, which is a thing that phones don't have by default. this would help with making the playable.
Also since the switch is a console that is made for multiplayer with the abity to use 2 joycons as seperate controllers - something other console don't have - local multiplayer would also make sense.
- would make sense while docked. the screen isn't big enough to fit a party of 4 players correctly so the console would need to be docked.
for osu!, split the screen so each person has their own field, kinda like in CoD or Minecraft on consoles.
for osu!taiko, add a lane for each player like in Taiko no Tatsujin
for osu!catch and osu!mania, make a column for each player.
in every single one of these there would be a clear indicator who is who so nobody is confused about which part of the screen is theirs, and the lobbies would support freestyle
thanks (and congrats) if you actually went trough the whole thing
If i see a single person ignore the header and start making replies i will go insane
