We all believe that.

I don't know what casual means but don't bother comparing yourself. I'm extremely competitive (Hell I played this game nonstop for 2 months and got 15k, but I know that's not even close to good). Just focus on improving little tidbits of your play and have fun with it.

Edit:
And if you care enough, you can always take a look around the forums and try to figure out how things go.

I'd say most "casual" players can get A/S ranks on most Hard diffs and some of the easier Insanes, but of course they don't usually do so in their first few days of playing. But yeah, depends a lot on what you consider "casual".
Oh hey that's me! ;P

In my opinion, an average casual osu player:

A. Has a total of 301 performance points or above in one mode
B. Can hit objects simultaneously for a short time at 300 in ~90 BPM/slow-paced beatmaps
B.1. Can stream in ~100 BPM
C. Has Excellent play at easy difficulty (97%-100%), FC or not
D. Can get a 90% or above in a Normal Difficulty
E. Rarely completes a Hard or Insane Difficulty
F. Can use either 2 or more difficulty increasing mods in an easy or a normal difficulty beatmaps
G. Has a top 30 "Top Performances" compiling ~85% of S or SS (around 26-30)
H. Is actively playing osu for 6 months and counting
I. Has a play count of ~1,000 plays (including retries)
J. Can achieve making to the top 800 in a beatmap
K. Stays on solo more than in multi-play
L. Uses default osu skin or Unmodified skins in the skin forum
M. Plays osu using basic peripherals (Built in Keyboard, Optical mouse etc.)

i can't even do this and i have over 1000 pp ;_;
how do you hit more than one object at once?
Zalaria
I consider myself somewhat a casual player, though I'm pretty bad now. Hell, I can't even complete insanes anymore. Typically I would go play any diff from Easy up to Insane. But most of my casual plays were from Hards.

I am talking about slow paced beatmaps which has 90BPM...
I've edited my previous post to make it more understandable in that part...
Arcanine
your casual osu player would shit on you as most of the try hards are still in training

90 bpm sounds a lot harder than say 160 to get consistent 300's on
harder to hold rhythm perfectly when there's less beats

You started yesterday and already care about others instead of your own progress and enjoyment?, i´d say quit.

A: Check
B: Going to be hard since hitting 2 notes at the exact same time won't end in a success.
B.1. : Hmm never tested that.
C: Check
D: Check
E: What is rarely?
F: Check
G: Dunno.
H: Chee.. nope.
I: Much more already.. what the fuck, so much already? o.O
J: Check
K: Double-Check
L: Modified Skin so.. nope
M: Optical mouse? check.
N: That is totally no definition of casual. If I had a tablet... oh wait..

So, I am finished with getting my attention (or not).

Back to topic: As someone already mentioned before, there is no "average casual osu player". This simply does not exist for Osu!.
But the reason for this is the very nature of Osu!. One may be casual in terms of play time per week. However, the effective time spent over time may be much more than a hardcore gamer spent in a few months, and so the casual player does not seem so casual anymore.

For any mistakes, or too much offtopic: sorry, it's close to 4 am here.

well if u can singletap 200 bpm 1/2 notes you can singletap 100 bpm 1/4 notes :P
TheVileOne
I co nsider myself an eternal casual player in standard. Rank has little to do with playing casually, but more how much you play. I don't consider a person bad at the game as casual. You can be a non-casual and be bad at the game.

Low BPM doesn't imply "slow." Quite the contrary, many mappers will actually map in double time in particularly low BPMs. 120 is about as low as you can go before things start to pick up speed.
Kazutakee
I don't know if there is something as a group of casual players in osu!, but I think it should be around 10k - 100k.
