I stopped playing osu mania and etterna about 3 years ago and only played maybe a song once a year, i started playing again and i feel like my speed is the same but i fumble om keys and can only get around 91-93% on 3.7+ star songs. it also feels like my hands are stuck on the keys (not literally) sometimes even though theyre moving.

Simplicity.
Also took a long break and have encountered what you have.

All I did was play simple maps. So that would be in the range of single streams, simple chords (jumps) without much need for technicality. However, I did slowly increase the difficulty of patterns to get back into the "swing of things".

I didn't start off in osu! though, I thought it would benefit more if I played Etterna to rebuild consistency.

i actually started in etterna too, ive been cycling between them a bit, i do try to play simple maps that focus on stuff like streams and stamina to build up muscle memory but im just stuck on that feeling of my hands glued to the keys when playing, idk if its normal or not.

I'm not entirely sure what that means. Are you talking about wrist down/up, perhaps?

its kind of hard to explain i guess, but for example: when im playing jumpstreams and handstreams i feel like im not bouncing but rather just sticking to the keys, it feels like im mashing.

Ah. Well, I'd say it's fine. That's how I usually tap, but lightly. In your case, this seems to happen once density arrives. Which simplicity could help fix, but I'd also recommend tapping as light as you can on simple patterns.

You may have some wild misses if you're not used to it, but wasting energy in the long run is not ideal

just play easier charts and speedrun rebuilding the fundamentals. in terms of how long itll take, itll feel like rebirthing for the first time in a game where its still sorta slow but the pace is definitely faster

go to etterna and start with easier stuff you can do, and focus on MA and PA

idk if this will work but i think it logically makes sense

edit: for hitting hard, just play the stuff you hit hard on and play again and again (make sure to avoid mindblock) as your stamina will (probably) be drained and you will hit lighter and i found that doing that will just work lmao. when i first got into chordjack, at school computer, i was shaking the goddamn table but i kept playing and now when i play chordjack i hit kinda hard, i just naturally hit harder i think

De-rusting, it's something I'm well acquainted with.

You'll have less stamina, speed, dexterity, movements feel more stiff, acc is worse, etc. All that to say, don't expect to get straight into what you used to play. You gotta build it back up, which doesn't take long.

Give it a few weeks, or 1-2months and you'll be equal or fairly close to where you used to be.

I spent alot more time playing easier maps with the occasional harder map. when I was getting back into the groove of things. My physical conditioning was poor, so I couldn't handle multiple harder songs without fumbling on everything. After some time it became less and less of a problem, till I eventually got back into what I used to play and surpassed old me before I shortly stopped playing again.

More important than anything else is to not rush progress have fun with it.
