I've started to play around month ago. Played tutorial, started to download and play new maps... and very quickly hit my limit. Why? I've played using mouse only. Both clicking and moving cursor were done by my right hand only. I though that something isn't right but I wasn't able to understand what's exactly wrong with it. And after around 20 days I saw a video on Youtube where some guy used left hand to tap two keys on the keyboard instead of using mouse for that purpose. Well, you can go into my profile and look how I jumped through 100k of ranks at that moment. I wonder for how long would I keep playing using mouse only without realizing that it's possible to play osu! using both hands.
And today, after reporting this problem ( t/200444 ) FlyingNeko and Celzon told me that I actually can use Space to skip through initial sequence of the song instead of clicking at skip button (which is a bit troublesome).
I think it's very important to tell a novice player which controls he can use and tutorial beatmap "Gameplay basics" is a good place for that. Or additional map with some advanced recommendations. I'm not sure but most likely I still missing something. Trial and error is a way but it's hard and not obvious way.
