How this tournament will be organized
To participate in mapping tournament you have to join tournament's discord server. You will be randomly placed in the tourney grid, after that you will have to battle 1v1 with another mapper, so this is how everything will be played out in contest:
1) At the beginning of each phase on Monday (phase lasts 2 weeks), you will be assigned to a room (chat in the discord server) where you, your opponent & the organizers are located.
2) In a separate general channel, categories and osz files with songs will be shown. In the case of the "Blind Choice" category, you will only get the osz file after the start of the round if it has been selected. The exception is the "Tie Breaker" category
3) Contestants roll the dice from 0 to 100 (/roll value 100 in discord chat), contestant who gets higher number chose what to ban first, after that picking the song first too.
4) Before the start there is "Category selection" phase. At first, both contestants ban one category, then each of them selecting one song from remaining categories.
5) After that contestants need to create one map for each song that was picked by you, and you opponent, taking into account from what category the song is and applying all the rules of the category. Deadline is Friday.
6) On Friday contestants sumbit their submissions by sending .osz files to their rooms (chat in the discord server), the time limit is 17:00 UTC or 20:00 UTC+3, if contestant doesn't send two maps he will be disqualified. In case of submitting only one map - disqualification. After sending the .osz file, a unique number will also be attached to your map and reported in dms. Criteria
Categories are judged on 10 point scale. The final category score is calculated from the average score of all judges, and the total final score is calculated from the average scores of the other categories.
Grading scale:
0 - 1 -> It's just not there, although it should be.
2 - 3 -> This is ignored
4 - 6 -> It was mediocre / average
7 - 8 -> Good job
9 - 10 -> Masterpiece performance
Attention, for the "Coloring" category, the things described in this category are also evaluated additionally
-------
1. Integrity of structure and rhythm - Evaluate the structure of map and rhythm and how strong they are
The map should not look like a random collection of notes and patterns scattered around. The integrity of the map is usually the responsibility of your mapping style. The aspect involves so many factors, because in other words this aspect can be called “Map Structure”, and structure is a fun thing. This aspect also includes how much your entire map structure fits the song, as well as [*Inconsistency] moments.
[*Inconsistency] is a term that exists in taiko. In short, these are moments when two or more parts of map are mapped differently (not referring to the colors of the notes), although in song these moments are completely identical, which is a disadvantage to the quality of map. Perhaps for beginners there will be a question - “And then how to diversify the map?”, for this purpose in taiko there are many other things that you will use
2. Map Quality - Evaluates the overall quality of the map
Map quality - how mapper made all the existing aspects of mapping work together and realized them in the map. There is a difference when mapper just approaches responsibly to any part, and when mapper not only responsibly map part, but also takes into account how similar all parts are in their style of using all aspects, as well as how much clearer the ranked criteria are followed
3. Creativity - The use of unique solutions in mapping
This criterion evaluates how interesting (varied/inventive) the mapper chooses solutions for map, and any unusual solutions
4. Song and Map Synergy - Evaluates how well the map fits the song
You can't take a song and map something else. And it's not about specific individual sounds. It's about how your entire map fits the mood of song and its changes, if any. This aspect also includes unique ideas that can be used exclusively for that song
5. Gameplay - Evaluates how fun and comfortable it is to play map
Just mapping is half of success, but mapping normally is a more interesting task. All technical difficulties that the mapper didn't notice and things that technically shouldn't be there are counted here. Every map should be fun to play and the player's play should not be ruined because of something you overlooked. This does NOT include when you have made a specifically difficult/uncomfortable to play/read moment(s) in map
