So Razer and Wooting have just released some new features for their analog keyboards which would allow you to just hold Z and spam X, kinda like guitar hero. This would allow you to essentially singletap streams, similar to the setup that Cloutiful had. (See this video for an example: https://youtu.be/Feny5bs2JCg?t=280).

I personally think this is not in the spirit of the game, and would give a significant advantage to anyone who uses these features. I tried it out in offline mode. It would definitely take some getting used to, but I could already tell streaming would be broken. With a little bit of practice, you could stream whatever bpm you can singletap.

I would like to hear the communities thoughts on the use of these features. If this is considered cheating, how would it be enforced? Could osu's anticheat be patched to detect this? And what would the punishment be? I suspect some players might try this thinking that it can't be cheating if you're just using your keyboard's built in settings, so would there be some kind of grace given for that?

If it guarantees an unfair advantage over other players who do not have these features, then it's cheating

oh snap tap/rappy snappy/socd is definitely bannable no questions asked, it gives you way too much of an advantage, you can literally hold down one key and single tap with your other key and it will still count as alternating.

It works in GH/RB because that mechanic is intentionally encoded into the game itself (and is largely what makes half of the difficulty--fretting/tapping sections--possible). Osu doesn't have that kind of mechanic as alternating is more akin to strumming, and only having to essentially strum once to play two notes is definitely in line with cheating, or at least being an extremely unfair advantage.

Basically they're just glorified macros built into the keyboard software labeled as a "feature."

As to enforcing the features being banned, honestly the only true way (probably) would be doing similar to Rust where they detect if someone is using a Bloody mouse and won't let them play. I myself don't really like this, but it is one way to prevent the features from being used.

(All my homies stay using normal mechanical keyboards, Corsair K63 my beloved)

im right now on the way to code a programm that makes the same thing possible with no rapid trigger it would be not as good bc there would be some factors that can just fck the programm but it would make it also possible on normal keyboards

Rapid trigger isn't considered cheating and fits this description tbh

little sideinfo also you can have the exact same effect by binding you second key to mouse button 1 aka left click trough a software
