General Summary
- PBT2 is an 2v2 osu!std double elimination tournament with teams of 6 formed by tiered draft.
- Staff other than streamers and commentators may not play in the tournament.
- The rank range for the tournament is 1k-10k with BWS applied: BWS rank = rank^(0.99^(badges^2)).
- The primary gimmick of the tournament is that it will emulate a competitive Pokémon battle: each team must pre-select 4 players to play in each match, and each map is an opportunity to deal HP to an opposing player who plays the map. If a player faints (gets to 0 HP), they may no longer play in the match.
- All players must join the Discord. Please refer to the rules doc or ask in the #questions channel if you would like anything clarified!

Tournament Rules
Please read this section carefully, as it differs significantly from a standard tournament match!
- Players sign up individually and first play through a Qualifiers mappool; for more details, see the Mappool section below.
- The top 96 players by sum of placements will qualify for the draft, but staff reserve the right to disqualify or reseed players. For more details, see the Draft section below.
- The resulting 16 teams will be seeded by average BWS rank into a double elimination bracket.
- Match schedules will be written in UTC.
- A referee will ping the captains of the two teams 10-15 minutes before the match time. Each captain must message the ref with four of their six players, only one of whom can be an Uber, as their designated lineup for the match.
- No warmups will be permitted (matches will run long).
- Captains roll at the beginning of the match, with the higher roll choosing either the pick or the ban order and the other captain choosing the other. Ban order is ABBA; doublepicking is allowed but not doublebanning.
- Teams get 90 seconds to ban and pick maps. After a map is selected, teams have 90 seconds for their players to ready up with their two players. (On Freemod maps, one player must take HD and/or EZ, while the other must take HR or HDHR. The EZ multiplier will be 1.8x.)
- The captains will then have 90 seconds to DM the ref with their lineups’ targeted opponents (in Pokémon Double Battle style).
- After the map is over, the team with the higher score receives a point. Additionally, if a player beats their targeted player, they will deal damage based on the percentage of their opponent’s score they achieved (see the rules doc for more details).
- Players begin the match with some total HP; if that number is reduced to 0, they may no longer play for the rest of the match. A match concludes by either reaching the “First To” or knocking out all players on the other team.
- Teams will be given a starting budget at the beginning of the tournament, as well as a small bonus after each match, which they can use to buy one-time and/or held items for their players.
- Items will have varying effects, such as healing teammates, boosting damage for HP calculation, or forcing battle behavior.
- As mentioned above, staff will first seed players by sum of placements but may adjust seeding or disqualify any players who appear to be deseeding.
- All 96 players may be selected as captains – captains will be chosen by staff from all tiers. Signing up for this tournament indicates willingness to be a captain for the draft (and captaincy can only be passed on after it is over).
- Players will be able to advertise their skills to captains before the draft, and the draft will be streamed live as well.
- The draft order will be announced along with the captain list. Ubers will be drafted first, followed by OUs and UUs (for instance, an OU captain would only draft one other OU player, skipping their second pick of the tier). The naming of tiers is mostly cosmetic, but there may be some additional rules or gimmicks attached for balancing.
- Instead of a standard pool format, there will be Pokémon-themed skillpools, with maps of Flying (Aim), Psychic (Reading), Fire (Precision), Electric (Tech), Water (Alt), Fighting (Tapping), Grass (Rhythm), and Normal (All-Rounder) types.
- Skills tested within each type will vary, and pools will not necessarily be conventionally balanced.
- Instead of a Tiebreaker map, if both teams are on match point, the final map will be decided out of the remaining maps in the 3 TB style.
- The quantities of picks, bans, and Best Ofs will be determined as the tournament progresses.
- Qualifiers will be roughly 7.0★ difficulty, and the bracket stage will scale roughly from 6.7★ to 7.3★.
