Does anyone else feel bad about the future of leaderboards or is it just me?

To think capped scores are no longer safe because of Lazer's score calculation is unsettling. Just to be clear, I know these scores will be preserved. The problem is that the unsnipeable has become snipeable. Who knows how much time, how many retries were behind each perfect run? That player later returns to see someone else above them for using a score multiplier that were not available to them. It's so unfair. This is part of what makes osu! so special, the leaderboards and their history. Since the time a map has gotten ranked/loved/approved, every player has had the opportunity to cap and every submission has been judged by the same standard. With a few exceptions:

You could argue that it should be up to the community and the developers to decide how score is calculated, but what message does that send to aspiring competitors? That there is no guarantee that you will remain on top even if you do everything right. Because they might just decide to introduce another difficulty factor (adjustable or not) that can SLIGHTLY cut you off. What the fuck? It's as if we have run out of maps to set new interesting scores on. On the contrary.

imagine if toy still held #1 on united with his hrhd ss and it would be sniped by lets say 99.5 acc because of score multiplier
thats kinda unsettling ngl

sry if i got the calculations wrong but what matters is the point

What sort of score multipliers can there even be that would still fall under the same basic mod combos (such as hrhd)?

In any case, I agree. To be fair, I don't know if Lazer uses the exact same score calculation (minus multipliers) as stable, but even if it does, I agree it's a little unfair for stable scores that use the exact same mod combos as lazer (or just NM itself) to be outdone by little things like that. It's even more egregious if super-optimized 4-mod (or 3-mod minus HR) scores get "Sniped" by a NM play that somehow has enough random multipliers to outdo them.

Lazer and Stable need to have the same score calculation if scores for the orignal mod combos are going to co-exist. Beyond that, ANY score that uses the new lazer-based mods (and I mean ANY) needs it's own leaderboards. I don't hate on Lazer having new and creative mod combos or multipliers, but those functionally can't co-exist with stable.

it might be a hot take but for me, the new lazer leaderboard system thingy is a good thing because it values accuracy instead

the unsnipeable scores are there but they feel odd because they don't have anything that deserves to be #1

If you get a good score it's because you have high accuracy, so why does the switch matter?
