I've had this problem for a while. I play with a mouse and keyboard, but I have the habit of only using the mouse when I encounter spinners. This obviously causes problems when I'm trying to get ranks, as in order to do songs with spinners, I need to enable mouse buttons.

Would it be too much to ask to have an option that allows the mouse to only be used for spinners?

I'm sorry but this idea is extremely stupid. First off, how hard is it to just hold down one of your keys to spin? Also, why would you need an option for spinners to only be done by mouse, if you are already doing them with your mouse? are you pressing down your keys and mouse buttons at the same time? like.. I either don't understand, or this is really pointless.

I also have this habit when I just started.
You just need to get used on holding one of the keys you're using while spinning and you'll be fine.
In fact, I'm also a mouse and keyboard player

This would help enforce bad habits.

Get into the habit of holding down the last key you press before a spinner. That's the most efficient way to do it and helps when the spinner appears right after a note.

Nope Nope Nope Nope Nope.

Spinning with your mouse button down is a good way to break it.

When I play with mouse+kb, I hold down both... mouse button and a key.

Get into that habit, it's great.

You spin with the mouse, not they keyboard. Why shouldn't spinners be clickable? This doesn't make any sense to me.

It's actually very hard to hold one of my keys to spin. After playing for a full year using nothing but the mouse to play spinners, it's very difficult to adjust. I've tried to, and I end up screwing up on really good performances.

Because I use the mouse for spinners, and I have mouse buttons disabled in order to not click notes prematurely.. did you even read my post?

Yes, I did. You're the only person (according to what I searched up) with this problem. Holding down a key to spin is more practical than holding down your left click. You have to worry about holding down pressure on your left click while maintaining a fast spin, and if you have a very sensitive click, it's much easier to hold down a key. Why don't you just get use to holding a key for spinners.. you use your keys to click everything else.

I can imagine this happening and not causing too much trouble. However it doesn't make sense to me why you cannot just learn to hold down z or x for spinners. Also you can enable/disable mouse buttons at any point during gameplay. Remap the key to a more convenient hotkey and you can enable it whenever you want.

I am personally against this idea, but from an unbiased perspective I don't see many downsides to this change. Unless there is a note really close after the spinner and the spinner is hard to clear, there is plenty of time to free up the input for the next section of play. I think it is fine the way it is though. Playing with a button pressed doesn't affect my gameplay, at least not any worse than spinner lags affects my spins.

I found a solution: I'm going to simply map one of my keyboard keys to the mouse click. I don't know why I never tried this earlier, actually. The problem is my mouse has very sensitive buttons, and it's really easy to click at the wrong times with mouse buttons enabled. I find spinners much easier with the mouse, I guess just because my click reaction time is faster than with the keyboard.

Thanks for the feedback.

To be totally honest I hover when playing and sometimes my pen can touch off the tablet and hit a notes prematurely(or render my z key unusable for a note) but when it comes to spinning I just use the pen for spinning. I don't see this as something that's needed more than some of the other great suggestions that I have read but if this was an option it's one I would avail of personally.

I don't wanna disable mouse keys as I sometimes bring up the chat during the longer brakes and it has killed me on more than 1 occasion when I hit the minimize button half a second too late and being unable to remember the hot key in time and just got owned by the song continuing and me unable to close the chat.

You spin with the mouse, okay, but you have to click on the spinner or use the keyboard in order to spin. It's the same logic for every element in osu!, be it circles or sliders. You use the mouse to control the cursor but you have to click on them or use the keyboard to actually get points.

You just have a bad habit. As others said, it's not difficult to hold down the X button on your keyboard to spin.
Yarissa
Spinning with your mouse button held down can actually help people spin, but I've never had a problem holding down my keyboard keys for spinners. I don't think this request would be very hard to implement though
Dalet
I had this problem too when I switched from mouse only to keyboard + mouse. It's just a bad habit you need to loose.
