no, I use tiermaker, when it exports it only gives me one image, it's easier to compress that image than to open that in photoshop and crop it to create two high quality images

Aight, no need for photoshop though, default image viewer on windows can do that, I use it all the time.

I just couldn't get into this game, played around 2 hours, and it's just, the movement is pretty scuffed, the combat doesn't seem excting, the story didn't grab me, there are a billion different mechanics and none of them look particullary interesting, dub is bad, it's just not something I want to bother with for another 40/50 hours

Your Lie In April

this is a tragic romance anime like I wanna eat your pancreas and others, I actually got the ending of this anime spoiled 3 years ago, at the time I didn't mind it since I assumed that whenever I were going to actually watch this anime I would have forgotten about it like I've done for many other spoilers, but that didn't happen, since for some reason that is a core memory now, still, that didn't affect my enjoyement of the anime much

like, this anime is all about the process, you know what you're getting into, even if not, you can make an idea of what's happening, the foreshadowing in this anime is very obvious, but it's the actual implications, consequences, and process that makes it great

this anime is about a guy who played the piano who stopped playing the piano after his abusive mother died and then he meets a girl that gets them to play the piano again. Like many other animes, this relies entirerily on feeling rather than having a smart plot or en extremely deep message or whatever, which it nails

the actual situation the protagonist finds themselves in at the start of the anime is actually really pretty complex and hard but while this is a very extreme situation, I think it can be extrapolated to real life situations you may have lived, and I think the way they depict this is really good, since a lot of people IRL seems to miss the point

the protagonist didn't really have friends since childhood, they never really developed social skills or a social circle, he only knew how to do one thing and that was to play the piano really fucking well, since her mother forced him to practice and play the piano, he played following the actual sheet music very closely, however, once her mother passes away and he loses the reason to play the piano, he's really left with nothing

This isn't really about moving on, the actual trauma isn't the point of the anime in my opinion, but the acutal act of restarting your life. It's easy to say "oh just try to talk to people and get other hobbies" but it really isn't that easy, this is not really something they know how to do, they don't have any experience doing any of those things, plus, they don't really have the contacts needed to actually meet new people or try new things

it's even worse, since everyone who shared the same hobby of playing the piano already knew them and in some sort of way disliked them or had a shaky relationship with them

He really can't play the piano anymore, not because truma, but because he had no reason to do so. He only played following his mother instructions and only to win contest, he had no real artistic intention or free will during the act of playing music, so whenever he's free to do whatever the fuck he wants, he doesn't really have any reason to really play

... but again, playing music is the only thing he knows how to do, and it's not like he can just try new things, so he kinda does piano adjacent things. The only way for him to break that cycle is for their friends and people close to them to try to steer his life in a different direction, to give him a push

they introduced him to new people, he even fell in love, and it was this change of pace that allowed him to break free, he now had new objectives in life, he had the motivation to actually go through and do certain things, he was able to start playing the piano again

In the end of the anime, when the girl dies, it isn't as catastrophic as when his mother died, yeah, he was closer to his crush than to his mother, but now he has actually lived through many experiences he was lacking, he had gained life knowledge and experiences, he's no longer stuck in a weird limbo like earlier, he doesn't need to restart life once again, yeah, it's difficult and shocking at whatever, but he now knows how to keep pushing, how to keep living

so yeah, try to be a nice person and if you think or know a friend who could benefit from a little push, please do it

Blade runner:

this one is kinda weird to talk about, I thought it was fine, I feel most of the appeal of this movie is like creating/defining/popularizing the cyberpunk genre here in the west, but I feel that with time blade runner isn't as noble or original anymore, so idk

Blade runner has a plot, but it's not really the focus?, it has a couple interesting concepts, mainly the idea of replicants. Robots that act exactly like humans an even have memories like humans, thing is that replicants just by existing put into question the identity of everyone on earth, you could be a repicant and not know it, even if you remember taking a test and knowing that you're not a replicant... what if someone implanted those memories into you?, there is no real way to know, and while this topic is explored, I don't think it goes deep enough

the main appeal of blade runner is the actual world building, defined cyberpunk as this hyper capitalistic/hyper sexual distopia, but it doesn't really explain why the world is the way that it is, other cyberpunk media like akira for example are fairly grounded in their assumptions of the future, however, blade runner implies a world where technology skyrocketed in power but that our human ethics and social issues have been ignored since the date of making the movie, maybe even reversed a little bit

I don't really like this, in most cyberpunk films (including modern blade runner), like with science fiction, you can imagine how society transitioned between our current state and the state depitced in said work, if you watch akira or ghost in the shell you get how things got that way, in fact, this genre uses that idea to make comments in our current society and world, but blade runner feels more like pure negligence from the global population which seems kinda weird

yes it defined the cyberpunk genre, but it has been the task of future cyberpunk films to recontextualize and give meaning to the world of blade runner

Gosick:

more like, it makes me SICK of how bad it is haha got it, anyways, yeah, this was very bad.

Gosick is a mistery anime about this guy who meets this super smart girl on the school library and then starts debunking urban legends, not too different than something like hyuouka, just in a historical setting

For the first half of the anime, every chapter basically has a different mistery to solve, thing is, unlike a lot of other mistery animes, you're not supposed to be able to solve the mistery by itself

They don't present you all the clues, then give you time to breathe and think, and then unvail the mistery like a sherlock holmes novel, but instead, a mistery is presented, the guy goes like "what's going onnnnnnn" and then the girls goes and solves it in the most assholy and smug way possible

to put an example, in episode 3 I think, they're in a pretty involved mistery, then the girl literally laughs on the face of a guy being scared and horrified after witnessing the death and basically suicide of a lot of people going like "lollllllllllllllllllllllllll how have you not solved it yet are you stupiddddddddddd", and then goes like, you see that bottle over there?, where, I just happened to know that brand I know it's fake which then leds me to x and y

You, as an audicence, had ABSOLUTELY no way to know about that brand since that information was NOT presented to you as a viewer, there is no mistery to solve for you, you're just meant to sit there and look how this asshole girl resolves everything

Not only that, but their explanation often have holes and relies on certain assumptions, nothing she claims or theorizes is confirmed at 100%, yet, she NEVER makes a mistake, she is always rewarded by the script, the only point in the anime where she can't solve a mistery, it is because it's unsolvable by anyone on planet earth

Thing is, that the mistery aspect is not really the point of the anime, it's the romance that forms between the guy and the girl, but in my opinion, it just doesn't really fit with the rest of the anime, it's not a particullary deep romance, and it kinda boils down to "omg he looked at me i'm going to blush but then i'm going to deny anything has happened because i'm a tsundere like that", also again, the girl is unlikeable as fuck so like why the fuck would I root for her and her romance like fuck off

watched the first episode which is a hour long, and didn't really enjoy it, the acting is very bad, a lot of scenes just happens exclusively due to shock and nothing else, a lot of the plot is pretty dumb, and I'm just not erally going to sit through like another 6 hours of this lmao

Pintu Terlarang (AKA: The Forbidden Door)

I'm sorry but this was ass

same director asJoko ANwar's Nightmares and Daydreams. It's a horror movie about pregnant statues and erectal dysfunction (not actually), it's just that the plot is a fucking mess, it's really hard to follow and many things doesn't really make much sense

that is mainly due to the pretty mediocre acting and specially the overdramatization of many scenes, there are a lot of moments where nothing out of the ordinary has happened but then tense music starts playing and the guy starts saying cryptic things

The end of the movie is also pretty bad, as it feels a lot of scenes are there mainly to them being shocking and they're WAY longer than they needed to be

Also, the start of the movie instead of being mysterious or whatever it's accidently really funny, which sets the tone wrong for the rest of the movie, the guy trying to sell the protagonist the statue and goes like "you know it could be your mother with your brother" and it was like "oh that's cool, anyways my brother KILLED my mother" and the guy just looks at him like holy fuck i'm so unlucky trying to sell this thing

anyways, the rest of the movie is extremely boring, placed in D tier

Lord of the rings

rewatch, honestly enjoyed it less than the first time?, it's still good but, eh

Lord of the rings is an incredibly influential work of fiction, since it basically created all the fantasy races that D&D would later adapt that would later become the typical fantasy setting for videogames, anime, and also more literature, surprisingly not that many movies tho

the actual story works, it's simple but good, however I have some nitpicks with it, maybe it was because I watched the most extended versions of each movie, but the pacing felt a little bit off, like the first movie is so packed with iconic scenes and plot points, while the later ones are mainly focused on one or two battles, which I don't think are as exciting as gandalf holding the bridge or whatever

Another thing that I don't really get from lord of the rings is the languages, there are a lot of different languages but the only one that really has prevelence in the movie is elvish, which is just there to add fluff to the movie, while the rest of races, hobbits, dwarves, humans, etc, seem to not have much problem communicating

and like blade runner, while it did create like half the genre, it doesn't really do a deep exploration into those themes, (but again, it's my fault for expecting a more drama focused/slice of life/psychological thing rather than them beating each other up for like 6 hours in a row) it will only be with works that were inspired by tolken literature that we will see stuff like exploration of the concept of the different lifespans of fantasy species

In addition to watching the lord of the rings movie, I watched the older, animated lord of the rings movie, and man, it's wild

it's probably one of the most visually insane movies due to it being entirerily rotoscoped, the tone is a lot sillier, closer to a robin hood theater play than this hyper serious tense epic fantasy style that the movies aim for, a lot of the plot doesn't make much sense, but honestly, it was a very enjoyable watch, I really think it's a good movie

if you haven't read the books I'd definitely recommend them

elvish is so prevalent in the movies versus other languages because of how deeply tolkien developed those languages himself. he mentioned at some point that the series started primarily due to his creation of the languages. native languages for dwarves and hobbits aren't nearly as developed as quenya is, and people have been trying to continue developing them since he died. elvish dot org lmao

suit yourself lol, they can be a bit flowery and overly long at some points but they're pretty great otherwise

Girls Band Cry

This anime did not hook me

it's your typical girls starting a band and then growing as a person because of it, it's anime original. This is a bit different than most music anime, because if you were to watch things like beck or nana, you would notice a lack of actual music in the anime, because, well, the point is more the drama and the subcultures of different music genres, not as much the songs that they play themselves. Also, given that they're all mainly based on mangas, it's hard to write songs in there (Except 20th century boys which isn't even a music manga yet somehow the mangaka wrote the song himself and put it in the manga which is honestly just so fucking cool), another reason why they don't really include songs is because if you're writing a story about the protagonist making the coolest and greatest song ever, if you can't compose something that matches that level, the plot falls short (in 20th century boys they say kenji is awful at singing)

instead, in girls band cry the drama is more secondary, it isn't anything groundbreaking, everything that it does has already done in the past (and better IMO) but instead it mainly focuses on the actual songs and the animation, thing is, the songs are fine, but they're not something I would add to my playlist or whatever

The animation is full 3d CGI, I liked this in kemono friends, I think it worked, but the early episodes of girl band cry are a bit worse than the kemono friends CGI, my problem lies more with the 3d models being out of place with the 2d backgrounds, but that is something they improved in the later episodes

The actual plot is a little bit messy for me?, it tries to cover most of the plotlines and catch up with the lives of everyone on the band and that's not a style I like very much, I prefeer animes with less ammount of characters but more fleshed out

so yeah, it's not something I enjoyed that much

jesus christ superstar

shoutout to accidental comedy

Biblical media is something weird, specifically american biblical media since they feel like they have the obligation to make their movies and games "educative" and "productive", so they often retell events from the bible or try to push christian values in a not very subtle way, not really going into the nuances of those values

jesus christ superstar is all of that, it's a retelling of the last days of jesus, but making it "hip" for the youth, which turns out to be really fucking funny, the story is exactly what you think, but I had a fun time, I think everyone dancing around jesus while he doesn't give a fuck

they also care surprisingly little about accuracy, like no biblical representation would hire that jduas lmao, I don't think this musical is good by itself, more so ironically, but idk

The songs aren't as catchy either but eh, I'm glad that this exists

Bocchi the rock

Bocchi is a weird one for me

The anime itself is about this asocial girl who joins a band but has lots of social anxiety, kinda like hitori bocchi if she was older and played the guitar, this is an adaptation of a kirara magazine manga, a magazine specialized in cute girls doing cute things manga, i'm quite a big fan of them actually

like most slice of life, a lot of bocchi is on the feelings, bocchi IS a relatable character for many, mainly for the audience that watch CGDCT anime, and I think the way bocchi tackles social anxiety has actually a good amount of nuance, this isn't really your typical sheldon cooper autism, the ways bocchi portrait social anxiety feels accurate with at least my life experiences, not really being that shy online, recording herself playing the guitar and uploading it online to her youtube channel isn't really a problem for her, but then, she's more afraid and clueless when it comes to using social media like twitter, she can talk to her friends about whatever, but it's really hard for her to really express more conflictive thoughts and often has to talk it with other people feel, and of course, she has a lot of scenic panic.

I feel that most other movies (not so much with anime, anime does this pretty well) would just fall into a more generic stereotype and not really go into the topic of what situations are hard for bocchi to deal and which are not. And again, I think bocchi does a REALLY good job in tackling internet related topics, a lot better than works like oshi no ko or similar, since it feels less like trying to cash in stuff like idol culture or vtubers and more grounded

The actual anime does add a lot of visual gags that went really viral, kinda pushing in the direction that works like girls last tour did in the past of using more abstract character representations/ignoring biology to portray certain feelings, this helps the anime and it's pretty good

Although, for as much praise I have towards bocchi, I feel their position and prestige in our current cultural landscape is a little bit unwarranted, bocchi is a good anime, but we must not ignore how much our current anime culture and seasonal system contributes to that

Anime grew a lot during the pandemic, it basically started a whole new wave of anime watchers which mainly only really follow seasonal animes, and bocchi the rock is the first really good, original slice of life, since most of the best recent slice of life are sequels, so, that means bocchi IS the first exposure a lot of people have had to the slice of life genre. We live in an age of hype and fandom, so it just exploded

Thing is, a lot of the praise the general audience is giving to bocchi is less a bocchi specific thing and more a slice of life thing, which is something that saddens me a little bit, since slice of life and kirara are peak and I want more attention on them

In fact, I would go as far to say that I feel bocchi is overrated, not personally, I think it's where it should be and i'm really happy for that, but knowing the general anime audience and what the bias supporting bocchi is, I feel the rating of bocchi is a little bit unfair compared to the rest of the genre.

Moving into another topic, we have the "i'm literally bocchi the rock" phenomenon, something that has been criticized a lot, this is people claiming they're quite like literally bocchi while not being that similar to her or even without having seen the anime, and honestly, I don't mind it, let me explain

There are different archetypes for "literally me" characters, the most known one is the edgy one, claiming that characters like kaneki or sasuke are just like me frfr. There are SO MANY characters like this, and even more if we count the OCs people make and stuff, yet, this isn't the only type of literally me characters, bocchi instead is in the "i'm a social wreck" type of literally me, and for this, there aren't that many characters, well, there ARE, but they're not very popular

Bocchi is the first time a character like this has been that popular in a little while. If you were to say "i'm literally ao from koisuru asteroid frfr", people would have no fucking clue what you are talking about, but if you were to say "i'm literally bocchi the rock", most people interested in anime know what that is and what that means, so even if there is a character that you relate to more or that is closer to you as a person, bocchi is the one character that people will understand.

It's also important to mention that hitori gotoh is really good LGBT representation, specifically for a work that doesn't even feature romance, in fact, the reveal that bocchi is a lesbian is something that most people who have some sort of adversity against it wont really notice, while, the audience of a work like bocchi which are autistic as fuck people, would notice, the reveal is a scene that has yet to be adapted where bocchi is playing splatoon, she finds out she has a natural talent for it and starts daydreaming as her becoming a professional gamer in the future, and in that future, she imagines herself with a cosplayer girlfriend.

so yeah, I can't really blame anyone for saying bocchi is literally me frfr

actually, if all of society could kinda relate to bocchi, we would live in a utopia

slice of life anime are underrated and I hope bocchi helps impulse this genre even further

Parasite is a korean film about a family that just lies and conspire to get jobs working in the mansion of some rich guys and be able to escape poverty

This movie is a criticism of capitalism, how the system is unfair, about how rich people are out of touch and care too much about certain problems that the middle class or lower class would find elementary, about how violence can be born in such a system

but, my favourite thing that parasite has done, is being the first ever foreign movie to win best picture at the oscars. This is at least from my perspective, a BIG FUCKING DEAL, and when you take into consideration what the actual message of the movie is, I think it's even a bigger deal

For as long as I can remember, Hollywood has been king, if you think of 80's movies, you probably think of 80's American action movies, which often than not are not very good or deep. The only movies you've probably seen in your life are american movies and movies from your local country, maybe you've even watched an european movie, but mainly only if you're a film buff

This isn't because there aren't any good movies from outside america, or even that they started producing them after the 80's, is that even during the early stages of the internet, hollywood has controlled a monopoly on movie discussion, abraker would here claim "AMERICAN CULTURE VICTORY!", but that is something that has been degrading over time

Historically, the two greatest films ever created have been citizen kane and the godfather, these movies aren't that good, but we have constructed our definition of what a good movie looks like around those two movies

Most foreign movies didn't make it to america or europe, if they made it here it was heavily censored thanks to the cold war, or at least here in spain, thanks to franco, american movies, and specifically pro america movies, were the only ones we could watch and the only ones that received marketing and wide theatrical releases

In fact, IMDB which is what the whole internet used to use for movie discussions had soft censorship of foreign movies. Foreign movies were less popular due to the censorship in the non internet era and IMDB placed a LARGE emphasis on popularity for their scores to actually be counted in things like the top 250

However, with time, foreign movies have started gaining influence on the internet, teenage girls are really into k-dramas and j-dramas, film buffs are using letterboxd which doesn't censor foreign films, indian movies are as popular as ever just look at things like RRR, and even 50 year old women are watching turkish dramas.

parasite was one of the biggest hits of that years and it wasn't american, parasite is a representation of hollywood losing their monopoly, and i'm down for it

so yeah, shoutouts to parasite, good movie

I have some beef with matrix 1 (and matrix in general)

But before that, we have to admit that matrix was really original in what special effects and visual goes, the slowdown was revolutionary for the time, the sets have a very unique feel, the shots themselves, the clothing, it's all SO iconic, and I really respect matrix for that

I do think that the actual setting of them being in a virtual world and learning how to abuse that fact is really well done, it's a lot better executed than a lot of newer movies and stuff with similar concepts

My problem is the actual concept of the matrix, I just don't buy into the idea. Even in real life, there is the theory that everything is a simulation, there is no proof for this, but there isn't any proof against it either, it's not something we can prove or disprove, at least with our current knowledge and technology

Let's say we ARE in a matrix, we find a way to break out of the matrix and into the higher level, now, how do we know we're NOT in a matrix?, for all that we know, there could be multiple nested simulations, and if that is the case, those simulations could run basically infinite, going a level above doesn't mean you're in the "true" level

If life was a simulation, would your life be different?, would any of your life experiences be any less real?, no, they would be the same, your life is going to be the exact same be this universe real or a matrix, so, what's the real point?

why go out of the matrix?, just to push humanity into a worse world where they're likely to die just to pursuit a reality that we cant prove if it exists or have any sort of effects in our lifes?

The only eral reason I would see for wanting to risk your life to go out of the matrix is due to religious and/or spiritual reason, which I don't recall them following in the movie

the actual movie is good, and I don't think that criticism mattered much at the time, matrix was so innovative and original in so many ways, but now, there are lot of media that tackles those same concepts in a more interesting way, and the innovations matrix did now are just industry standard, so yeah, good movie but maybe doesn't it doesn't stand the passage of time that much

In fact, there is a part near the start of the game where they tutorialized adding your translation of words, however, I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the fuck that word mean, i'm so fucking ass at puzzle games I couldn't figure out THE TUTORIAL

Shin Godzilla:

Never seen a kaiju film before, and i'm pleasantly surprised

Directed by hideaki anno, director of evangelion and some other better stuff, it's a movie about godzilla showing up in the beach and then the government shitting themselves as they don't know how to deal with that situation, it's not really an action movie like I expected, it's more of a drama with godzilla involved, I actually asked my friend who is into kaijus if this was the case normally and they told me yeah

This movie is entirerily about burocracy and politics, and how our current system wouldn't hold if godzilla appeared in the cost of tokyo, which honestly, yeah, I don't think the government is prepared for that LMAO. Point is, the current system cant really handle extremely urgent circumstances, because there is a lot of steps to carry out anything, the chain of command is long and therefore slow, the law is ambiguous in certain parts, (my fav part of the movie are two characters discussing if godzilla attacking would legally count as an attack from a foreign country) and there are a lot of caviats that need to be fulfilled before doing anything

then you have other countries trying to cash in your situation, they're not going to accept to fight godzilla for free even if it is a existential threat to humanity as a whole, your public opinion is entirerily on the line with every action with may destroy your career even if you're trying to save everyone, we judge ourselves by our intentions, but we judge other people for their actions.

The movie is very fast paced, this denotes the feeling of urgency, in fact, the movie basically plays in real time, as in the first hour of the movie, I think only 2 hours pass in the movie, which feels pretty cool

The only thing I would say I disliked about this movie is actually the reference to evangelion, since I feel it kinda shifts the discussion of this film to "omg evangelionnnnnnnnnnnn" rather than the film itself, which I did not like

so yeah, pleasantly surprised with this film, will watch other kaiju films in the future

Gone Girl

Movie by david fincher, pretty good too

It's about the story of probably the single most toxic relationship you've ever seen, how a relationship like that forms, why it fails, and everything that happens after that

It's a tried and true concept, there are some other movies with similar concepts that have been successes in the past, however, david fincher adds a little bit more of spice into it, for example, a thing that I really like is the commentary it does on how justice works differently if you're famous and how your public image takes part in that

like fight club, the ending is extremely shocking, even in a movie where a lot of bad things happens, there is nothing graphic, except for the ending, this is to make it even more impactful and it does work

overall good movie, nothing special but good, placed in B rank

Godzilla minus one is a godzilla movie about godzilla showing up in japan just after the end of WW2, and keeping in theme with the previosu and only other kaiju film i've ever seen, godzilla appears in like 2 scenes total, my friend told me this was the rule and now I can confirm that

The actual plot of the movie is about this guy who was a kamikaze in WW2 yet refused to actually commit suicide for their country, which is, an extremely dishonorable thing to do. As far as I know, japanese are fucking crazy with that sort of stuff, like, you used to have the samurais with the harakiris and shit, not commiting suicide is often seen as a bad thing. There once was a japenese man who survived the crash of the titanic, yet was shamed by the public because they didn't go down with the ship.

Godzilla is just there to give this man another war, the movie is a lot more focused on him than on godzilla, and for good reason, the drama is really good.

Honestly japan seems to be doing the kaiju stuff a lot better than america with godzilla vs kong and stuff, this is a movie that from what I have seen it doesn't really change godzilla biology or whatever when compared to shin godzilla, you don't need to watch any other godzilla movie instead of the 20 movies that a lot of american movie franchises ask you to do, it stands by it's own two feet rather than relying entirerily on the IP, it's good

If i'm being entirerily honest, I liked shin godzilla slightly more but this is basically at the same level

Lucky for you, I have already seen it, also, there is nothing against requesting multiple things at once, people have done it in the past, so yeah, go wild with requests, also, in terms of spoilers, this movie isn't like that, you already kind of know what is going to happen going into the movie

I LOVE makoto shinkai, they made some of my favourite anime, and some of the first ones I ever watched, and, in fact, I own TWO posters for makoto shinkai movies, weatherign with you and suzume. Also, not so long ago I read the 5 centimeter per second manga since I wanted to remember how it went

5 centimeter per second is probably the most painful and emotionally charged movie makoto shinkai has ever made, it's not really in my top 10 most painful things i've watched tho, still emotional regardless

The movie is about the passage of time and how this affects relationships, it narrates the life of this guy, the movie being divided in different stages of life, each scene isn't really the most impactful moment of their lifes, but they really showcases how their lifes has changed

Your social circle is always changing, you meet people and then you stop talking to people, and for this later thing to happen you don't really need to have a fight, just for your lifes to split, maybe it's inconvenient talking to them, maybe there are other, more important people in your life now, maybe you jsut don't enjoy being around them that much anymore

When talking about relationships, loving someone isn't enough by itself, the circumstanecs need to be right, in a relationship you're investing yourself to try to make it last, but we cant control everything in life, sometimes it's just impossible for two people to stay together, there is a reason why long distance relationships tend to fail, that teenage relationships tend to fail, it's just not a stable environment

But that is life, yes, it may be painful at the moment and maybe sad to think about, but is it really a bad thing that you split with everyone you knew at a certain point in life?, not really, if anything, always being tied to them would be a bad thing

I've seen people describe movies like this or I want to eat your pancreas or whatever as "crybait", and honestly that's a term and idea that I hate, yes, being moved and getting emotional over these type of films is intended, but there are also movies which point is to scare us or to make us feel a certain way

A lot of people also criticize that the way these movies make you emotional is "cheap", that they may be tropes or whatever, but again, I don't see why crying over an extremely complex circumstance is better than crying over the simple things, a movie isn't better the more complex it is, I think a lot of that criticism is very missguided and that works like these are often underrated

so yeah, this is a really good anime, A rank

Are you a moron or do you fake being a moron because it fits your bullshit? I said that because historically, as you said, Rockstar made shit PC ports until GTA V (not sure how RDR2 is on PC). You're right, but I said it is possible to play it vanilla too. Plus, such mods are 100 times easier to install on Windows than on Linux. GPU passthrough is also way too complicated and only a handful of people do it nowadays. It was bigger back in the day when Proton wasn't as great, but it got so far that most games on Steam seem to just work or have some sort of fix available to make them playable.

I'm mixed about this game

This game is a yume nikki fangame, but, I feel that's about it, it doesn't offer nothing new, it isn't really original and groundbreaking like the original yume nikki room, this game is just "what if there were more rooms and transformations to collect", and while it does that pretty well, there is nothing more here, this is an expansion pack for yume nikki more than a game that can stand by itself

Unlike yume nikki, this game seems to be overall more focused, instead of taking the yume nikki approach of making literally anything into a room, this game feels like it's trying to tell a story, a lot of zone themes repeat, and they all feel like distorted memories of the protagonist, you have a school, a bar, a hospital, and even the more out there sections of the game like the place where you can cut off your head, are a lot less out there than some zones in yume nikki

some zones are kinda revamped version of yume nikki rooms, things like the console zone or the snow zone or the more psychodelic part with the teleports are all yume nikki zones. Honestly I don't really like this, a lot of what made yume nikki interesting was the initial shock of playing it and it being so bizarre, it being less bizarre and going "oh i've already seen this" kinda takes away from the experience IMO

I don't think that it was trying to do was entirerily wrong tho, I think a game that has this similar goal of being a more focused yume nikki would be lisa the first, but IMO, lisa the first does it better, it's a lot more lineal yes, but it's a lot more effective with it's storytelling and for me, a lot of the sections like the legendary stairs are a lot more memorable than the third apartment section in .flow

However, I will give .flow a bit of praise, it felt more disturbing than yume nikki. While yume nikki is tagged as an horror game, it never really felt scary, but there are like 2 sections or so of .flow that kinda did make me feel uneasy, so props to them

Note that I have obtained the normal ending, so, get all transformations, reading online there is another ending that requires you to lose all effects and then do two more zones, but reading over it, it didn't felt too interesting or worth my time very much, so I just decided not to do it

Also, this game has only 4 sections in the hub, however, these sections are way longer and they're all connected with each other, I don't know if I like this choice, it makes you take longer to get to each destination, and what is fun about this game is to just explore the new zones, not repeat the same sections over and over again

I haven't really also spotted many RNG events in this game other than the main hub changing colors, A thing that I liked in yume nikki and even games like omori is that they have random events that will leave you very confused and then it will force you to talk about it to your friends who haven't seen that event so they take you as crazy, I think that is really good game design, it also makes going through previous zones more exciting, trying to repeat a route to only find out it doesn't work anymore or interacting with something that hasn't ever done anything and it suddenly doing something is really cool, so I dislike the fact that .flow doesn't really lean into this harder.

Reyalp is going to hate me for this since they play yume nikki fangames 24/7, but I don't think yume nikki is that good of a game to endlessly replay, what felt interesting for yume nikki to me was the idea, not so much the execution, as I said on my original post about yume nikki, I like games that take elements from yume nikki to assist them with the storytelling in other games than yume nikki itself, so just playing yume nikki reskinned is not that good of an experience

i like to value games separately, in a world where yume nikki exist there will never be a game that is a better yume nikki i get that, but i still tink this game is on par with yume nikki even if it is quite the different aproach to what dream simulators usually are but this is just subjective

The cat returns

but where did they go tho

studio ghibli movie about this girl who saves a cat who turns out to be a royal member of the cat kingdom who tries to repay her really hard

The movie is nice, its not the best movie studio ghibli has ever done, or the more unique, but there aren't bad studio ghibli movies, it was just fine

the movie has this feel of it being a modern fairy tail, something that you would feel your mother reading to you before going to sleep when you're like 4, but as far as I knmow the concept is all original

I don't have much to say about this movie, it's just fine

Air (the anime not the visual novel)

Pretty ass (sorry aireunaeus)

I remember EBLF telling me about this anime when I was ranting about IF, saying that this anime was somehow less focused, and they were right

Visual novels are really long games, and most of them are basically glorified dating sims, you talk to one girl a lot so you end up doing the route of that girl where you learn about her backstory, help her out and maybe there is also one or two sex scenes. Animes are a linear genre, so, when you try to adapt a game that is supposed to have decisions and route into another medium which doesn't have decisions and you're also trying to fit it in a much smaller runtime you need to know how to do it, and this anime just didn't know how to do it (that or the VN is also ass I haven't played it)

This anime has SO many plotpoints and none of them are explored, do you know how with the OT!Book I criticized ther being like 20 chapters of characters introduction? that also happens here, the first 3 chapters or so are just introductions, and then, like the OT book, none of those characters are developed

this anime skips from introductions straight to the ending, whenever the first arc of the anime got "resolved" I was so confused because like, nothing had really happened, i'm being honest, the protagonist just stood there doing nothing and things kinda solved themselves?, the worst part is that after that arc stopped we move to a entirerily different setting where we have MORE introductions and then the same thing happens

The way the story develops really isn't natural, feels very forced at points, of a character suddengly deciding to say information vital to the plot that they could have said way earlier and there is no real excuse for why they didn't say it either

with IF I criticized the fact that the actual plots were very interesting but they didn't develop them which annoyed me, for this anime, the plots have no depth and they have no develepoment idk what's worse tbh

like the plot points are so weird, there is one character that just does weird sounds from time to time and another characters find this mildy annoying so they get this other character to kinda hit them or whatever when they did the sound so they would stop making it which is an awful idea tbh and that shit gets more screentime that it deserves

this anime also dares to have emotional moments, like, you understand that this is a sad scene but I have 0 attachement to any of the characters or even the plot required to actually hit a emotional string in me, so i'm just sitting there like i'm sorry that happened/I'm happy for you I guess??????????

the only reason I got through this anime is because I just searched for the dub version and put in the second monitor while I did more interesting things in the first
