got my class rank on friday
i thought it was going to be good when i saw my GPA was 3.7 or 93 / 100
i am the bottom 10 people in the entire school
rank 89 / 98
i broke down crying in class and went to the restroom and started doing pullups for some reason
am i at a subhuman level of intelligence?
i studied and tried so hard for what? this
my fucking friends who do not even try in school have ranks of #29 #55 and etc and i am FUCKING #89
every girl i been with greatly surpasses my rank
all my friends do

they are all better then me
everyone is better then me

Hey!

So some schools dont weigh their individual classes. This means that if people are taking easier classes than you like rudimentary english, math, P.E. classes, or anything else that might not be on the same level/course load that you are taking currently then that can inflate the class ranking.

In my highschool, it was this way. Those that were taking the simple classes and getting 4.0 in those classes were having a higher class ranking than I when I was taking 3 college courses and 2 AP classes at the same time. It simply wasnt fair.

some advice from someone who has graduated high school, gone to college, and is still at college: no one gives a fuck about your class ranking as soon as that diploma is in your and their hands. You graduate and that is the end of story. You get the same diploma as them regardless of if you are last place or first.

Don't beat yourself up over this. It will pass. Finish the year strong and finish it the best you can.

class rank is not a measure of how smart or capable you are, as Blushing mentioned there are many other factors at play there. and stepping further out, even grades and scores themselves are not really measuring that.

if your goal is specifically to improve your grades though I'd recommend changing up your study strategy or something. try out different environment, people, method, material, etc., obviously the options will highly depend on what your classes are actually about. there's probably resources at your school that could help with this but also the internet

also your student body might just be insane or something because I never heard of a school where 3.7 GPA is bottom 10% lol

I've never been to a school that did class rankings which is good because that sounds like a horrible idea.

Showing everyone's rank in the class will not only cause some people to start bullying those low on the list, but it'll make some people feel really bad about themselves that they scored how they did compared to their classmates.

As for the thread itself, please don't kill yourself. Commiting suicide is permanent and can never be undone. At the end of the day, your grade in school does not determine what type of future you'll have. Yes, getting a degree will surely benefit you, but many, MANY people are able to live comfortably while never receiving a diploma.

If this is just bait, shame on you. Many people kill themselves every year and it's very disrespectful to joke about.

thanks guys i meant kms figuratively but for the last couple years i been extremely unhappy and had an attempt or two
they publicly post the class rankings so i have got nothing but shit from people for my rank

Yes you're ranked 89 out of 98 but you still got 93/100. full stop. You are neither dumb nor have low IQ. It's just the scoring system in your school seems to be inflated so much rankings doesn't even have any meaningful meanings. I mean, 93/100 in the 90th percentile is insane. And if your score is based heavily on exams, then one miscalculation in Maths exam, for example, can have great substantial impacts on your Maths score and therefore your GPA.

It doesn't have to be something that destroys you on a daily basis, don't think you're one of the dumbest students just because you're at the bottom. The fact that you've worked hard for it shows you don't have a low IQ, there are many factors to consider...

exams are not weighted just a high marks school i know i would be in the 25th percentile anywhere else i swear to god
