Because I feel that there are far too many people who go to this place requsting beatmaps when they shouldn't simply because the rules weren't sticking out for everyone. I mean I couldn't even see the rules until some GMT pointed them out for me and didn't know the importance of them when I first used the forums so.... And anyways, where do I appeal for this if you all agree?

How would you do it? I was thinking that maybe when you press the New Topic button you would first land on a page with the forum rules then you have to press a checkbox to agree to post within those rules and then you can post but probably people wouldn't read them anyway

Sounds like a great idea, lol. Well, probably needs some more thought into it so that people don't get annoyed by this a million times. No.... actually the way I would do it is to have a seperate subcategory for rules, make it the second topmost subcategory just above the "pinned topics", and make the text "Forums Rules-Read before posting" in all caps, bolded and in rainbow text so that it catches their eye when they first come across the forums.

The issue lies that no one will read the rules before posting. So having another category of "pinned" topics so-to-speak would just create more things people arent going to read.

I've proposed a couple times of what Marco has basically said with the difference that each new "Web Session" you need to click the checkbox agreeing that you read the rules and understand/agree to them.

However, I think it best that its a reactionary approach rather than preemptive.

Edit: The explanation behind a needing to check the box with each new web session is, imo, because if you are perusing the forums for hours on end you probably know what to do and the rules, if you dont then thats really tough luck. Plus it allows a good intermediary for the "amount" of times the pop-up can and will show up. If you are closing and opening and closing and opening your web browser, effectively ending the session then thats on you.

Where new players and those with less forum experience usually dont post or peruse the forums that often this in-your-face heads-up pop-up is more than enough for them to have read the rules. If they just hit the accept box and post away then thats why we have moderators and what not so they can handle it from there. But I think anything else is probably just going to be ignored or useless for anyone else.

okay, So if most people seems to agree with this according to the polls, where do we appeal for this? Oh, BTW, Blushing, what's the progress on that proposal for this idea so far anyways?

okay. I'll see what I can do.

To be quite honest, without a strong agreeance from GMT and a lot of internal discussions about it, the proposal is dead before it is even written out. You are better off reporting/messaging GMT to remove/lock/move something from the forums before this proposal is thought out. Not trying to burst your bubble, because it is a good idea. Its the struggles of trying to get something done when you aren't in the scope and trying to make people do your own change.

Make the proposal. It might get somewhere. Just be patient and possibly take matters in your own hands until it is made reality.

Yeah, That makes sense.

a long time ago i moderated for a website that had a rules popup of what used to be the most common infractions in very basic, hard to misinterpret verbiage and large font, that you couldn't skip, and we had remarkably few violations of those rules after implementing that. maybe create a popup like that for people who haven't posted on the Mapping Discussion forum before. just two short lines of large-font text saying "Want feedback for your map? Check out the Modding Queues section. Looking to request a map? join an ingame chat room or discord server"
