How long did it take you to get out of the 4 star range?

I started playing osu a few months ago, and it didn't take me long to get out of the 2 and 3 star range. Now, I can very comfortably play pretty much all low-mid 4 star songs, getting S or A ranks every time, full combo'ing some of them. High 4 stars get a bit tricky depending on the map, but I can still A rank many of them.

But 5 star maps? They're on a whole different level. I can complete some, but not well. I get Bs or Cs on most of them, and I think I've only ever gotten an A rank on like one. Many of the high 4 stars and low 5 stars seem to consist of tonnes of streams (Which I still absolutely suck at) and I find it really hard to go quickly from a stream to jumps. I just don't understand how to stream tbf, it's like my fingers can't physically click that fast accurately, and after maybe 8 notes, if the stream is too fast, I miss everything.

I have a total of 83 hours played according to my profile. Is that good progress to make in that time? For the record I am on mouse and keyboard.

All you need to do to improve is keep playing. For streams you should play 4 star maps with slow, short streams until you master them and work your way up from there.

I'd also recommend playing the maps in your top plays until you can get a 98% FC on them; you have a lot of A ranks.
Yeah, I know I have a lot of A ranks, but thing is I get in my head a lot. If I'm aiming to S something - I won't. I get on a high enough combo and I'm like "don't miss, don't miss", and then I panic and miss. If I'm just playing a map for the first time, I usually do better on it than further attempts.

Also, wouldn't it be better to play lots of new maps rather than the same ones over and over? Surely that'd make you better at the game rather than relying on muscle memory?

try learning the things that give you problems in a map, the star rating isn't that important.*

notice how you play and notice how you miss or make a mistake, know what you should try to do instead. then try to do it correctly next time. if your brains freeze in the map, you can try tracing the aim pattern or tapping pattern without playing the game, untill you can do it 'dry'.

is took me 210 hours on mouse and 150 hours on tablet to hit 5* on both peripherals. Something that helped, regardless of peripheral, was playing PRIMARILY 4* burst maps. Jump focused maps are fine as long as they incorporate bursts in their jump sections.

I have about 450 hours on my non-dominant hand (including time played offline) and am around the 4 star range in terms of what I can consistently FC with good accuracy. Most of my top plays are ~4.8 stars. I think by 550 I will be out completely. If you specialize in a certain skill set, you can definitely improve a lot faster than this.

Probably 200h if we count McOsu and osu!droid sessions

I am starting to enter into the 4* phase more and more as time progressed, but I always end up having to FC some 4* maps to get good amounts of pp, because I often end up playing with EZ instead to get pp more easily, because I have played a lot more 1*-3* low ar diffs than usual and I often play these super old ranked maps too, though I lack some skill when I always play these new ranked maps, because they are mostly just not that fun to with play with if I'm being honest..

However just because I'm a bit of an EZ farmer does NOT mean that I can read EZ perfectly...;_;

My reading skills in EZ are still somewhat flawed in my book, though I can at the very least have an easier time fcing stuff for the most part..

My favorite EZ play though is the Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! play, because of the somewhat strange jumps and spaced bursts!

Even though I awkwardly sliderbroke 3 times... ;w;
