What's the point of playing for ranks if all the effort you put gets automatically reset?

I’m not certain that PP resets are a good idea. It would probably destroy the community, as a lot of the games history relies on PP. Although the idea of a separate ranking system in Osu, like in Valorant and Overwatch, isn’t foreign. I would actually argue it’s a great idea for maintaining an active community.
A seasonal ranking system would give players goals to work toward and a reason to play consistently.

If you do not play/log in for a certain amount of time between those reworks, you'll have your profile show "--pp" like you've never played, but it's basically just a means of hiding inactive players. Once you submit some scores it'll show back up again.

Honestly I don't know how you're supposed to implement that in a rhythm game. The only seasons we have are artists drawing each time for 4 seasons in a year and the best arts are picked by community voting. Seasons as battle pass or content update don't make sense as all the content mostly comes from mappers who are also players.
The most closest to seasons I can relate are beatmap spotlights, as it gives a badge to your profile based on your place in the end.
For competitive reasons we have tourneys. And they are also hosted by players (excluding OWC). Leaderboards also provide competitive feel.
And pp reset is just an insult to someone who plays the game (like why bother to replay the same map each year unless you can improve the score). And usually #1 place means that a person is actually good at the game (even if it is a farming, because you just can't get so much pp out of any map without mods like DT).
