I know it can be hard to implement, but it could be a great improvement, and a way to mitigate the low accuracy of the current star rating system.
Eterna does this well enough for mania : charts are put into different categories depending on the skillset needed. So you could have a 6* overall chart with a 6* rating in jumpstreams, but 2* in jacks. This way, if your level in jacks is about 6* but in jumpstreams it's 4.5*, you know this chart will be too hard for you.
Currently, if you can play some 6* consistently **but only if they're jumpstreams**, you could confidently try a 6* chart, and if it's jacks, you're screwed.
It also allows to make skill-based leaderboards, and the overall rating of a player is the average its individual ratings. So, if you are rated 6* in jumpstreams but 3* in jacks, your overall rating is 4.5*.
It could be applied to standard as well (at least with jumps / streams ?) and taiko (streams, 1/6, high-bpm, etc...). I didn't play enough CtB to know if it's could be applied to this mode as well
