Map Star Rankings kinda weird

So, Ive been playing this game on and off for a few years, and one thing that has always confused me is the "star rating" of beatmaps... I can get S on 2.5 star maps perfectly fine, but then always fail the moment the star rating hits like 2.8/3... I feel like the jump from 2.5 star to anything higher is very dramatic or maybe the auto rating is just not very good at judging some maps or something. Am I crazy, is it an issue with lazer (as I only play lazer now due to having M1 Macbook and iPad that I will play on at school, etc) so its more consistent between devices, or is it just a "skill issue"?
If this has been covered elsewhere, go ahead and delete my post, idc, but this just confuses the heck out of me.

Pay attention to what the difficulty name suggests. There's quite a jump in difficulty from "Normal" difficulties to "Hard" difficulties.

And yeah i guess this is also kinda a skill issue thing, just play those difficult maps until you get used to it. Everybody also struggled with it too at first.

Yeah, I feel this too. Increasing the star rating by 0.1 or 0.2 makes a map noticeably harder if they are a similar type of map. Once you move into star ratings above 4 or 5 you'll also find that there'll be different types of maps, and the difficulty between these different types of maps vary wildly even if they're the same star rating.
