so i started playing standard as my main in December of last year and i found it harder to rank up than newer people do

is the answer to the title yes or am i just slow to improve?

It isn't necessarily a question of it being harder to rank u the older your account is but rather the fact that new players improve quicker.

Maybe because the new people who are new to the game are more likely to improve faster I don't know

some people hit walls at some point in their progression that they may or may not overcome, while others just breeze through it

The only correlation to how old your account is is to how old you are, which has a lot more to do with how fast you'll improve than anything else. I don't know how old you are, but don't expect to be in your late 20's or 30s and improve faster than kids in their pre-/teens.
