I'm slowly getting bad at this game

This happened to me like few weeks ago. I can't make great scores since like last month. My hand always hurts while playing. Even though I did long breaks (I haven't played osu like a week ago till today), and it still did not work. Probably I did not sleep well or enough. Because of this, I slowly have a lack of motivation playing this game, which I doubt. do you guys have any methods or tips to get better again, so I can get motivated to play osu?

sounds like a wall, i have no experience with walls bc i have never hit one before, but looking at other threads about walls it seems like the best way through is to keep on hurling yourself at the wall and expect no progress, and eventually the wall will magically disappear. (correct me if i'm wrong)

if your hand hurts while playing, well i'm guessing it's your aiming hand bc i also suffer from this, just don't put too much pressure gripping your pen, and try playing for shorter sessions. personally, my hand only starts hurting after playing for about 1.5 hours. if it's your tapping hand, try not to play stamina maps for too long at a time, and move only your fingers for alternating (and keep your arm relaxed but your fingers tense). for singletapping that's a bit different, you need a bit of tension in your arm for that.

also, breaks only work if you manage to derust after the break. considering you haven't played osu! for a week until today, you probably haven't really derusted yet.

(demotivation is also the perfect chance to quit w...)

Well in my opinion you are making good progress and pushing your skill level constantly, which is good.

However you have probably hit the point where your hands are exhausted and cant keep up. 1 week is a decent break but you might not have been fully resting in that period as you said. Sleep is one very important factor but so is stress, nutrition and lifestyle. Try experiment with different ways to help you recover faster and make small changes to your life.

Try doing these:

1. If you don't already get daily exercise, go for short 15 min walks every now and then.
2. Spend time actually resting. Watching TV, browsing the net or playing other games don't count as rest.
3. Eat more animal proteins (meat, eggs, etc). Protein is vital for recovery
4. Reduce bad foods like potato chips, sugar, soft drinks
5. Try get sunlight in the morning. This can be done at the same time as tip 1 and it helps you sleep better
6. Sleep on a regular schedule (weekends too if possible) and get as much sleep as possible

Good luck!

not sure if this actually helps with osu!, but it definitely helps with health and life in general

If your hand hurts while playing it might be because of bad technique while playing, like you're gripping your pen too hard or tensing up too hard while tapping. This can be a quite difficult bad habit to remove so here's a trick I like to use to overcome this.

First play a map thats not that difficult, but it still drains your stamina on either your tapping or aim hand. Now, right after you finish playing that map, play it again. However this time what you're going to focus on is your comfort while playing the map despite the drained stamina from your first play. You know how the rhythm plays out, you know how the circles are gonna appear, now you just need to focus on improving your comfort while playing them.
Also the drained stamina from the first play is good because it makes your hand more sensitive to stamina loss and you can look for what you're doing wrong.

Also a couple of things that probably would help:
-You dont need to grip your pen as hard as you might think to keep your pen in your hand(idk for drag but this is true at least for hover)
-Focus more energy on moving and controlling your pen around rather than gripping your pen to death
-Half of the struggle with tapping is knowing how rhythms plays out, focus clearly on how rhythms goes and your muscle memory will naturally try to hit them as such
-If you haven't developed such muscle memories and have to tense up while playing them, remember what I just said previously and try to learn how to play them with more relaxed tapping

hmm, so I have to keep hurling myself so the wall disappear. it can be great, but it can be stressful for me, if my brain wants perfection or smth.

how can I "derust" correctly if I do long breaks?

nice, this is very helpful but as flareling said, it is rather a tip for life in general. it could also work in osu too. thanks :)

man, this tip is also helpful, it seems I shouldn't be angry if I can't accomplish it. just try again twice or thrice and it can be better.

as a drag player, this could be also the reason.

but again, thanks for the tips guys 😊
