I see the majority of players here who give really solid advice. However, some people like to overthink the game and stress on the little things and fail to see the bigger picture. If you are able to identify the problem and solve the issue at hand, then kudos to you.

But!

In my very most honest subjective opinion, I believe it is very important to just play the game.

There is a reason why you don't see many top players in this forum telling others how to improve in the game. They don't have any secrets that they hide from the playerbase. Making subtle differences in your gameplay is not going to boost your stamina, aim, or any other gameplay element. If you wanted to improve in basketball, using your middle finger for your stroke is no different from your index finger. Instead getting used to that position at the peak of your stroke will make your shot 10x more effective then playing around with your technique. This is goes hand in hand with osu!. However I also don't think that just getting 'play more' as advice is helpful either because that is obvious. Decent advice should be objective and straight to the point which addresses the issue that affects their gameplay and how they improve in the long run.

Improvement should be a steady process that comes with experience as you play the game and figure out what your playstyle best suits you. Enjoying the game at your own pace should be your number one priority.

But I'm a shitty 5 digit who doesn't post on forums so tell me what you think

Well, I think it's always good to see what other people's opinions are on how to improve. Ofc everyone takes different paths, but its always interesting to see what people do to make certain things work.

Something I'd like to talk about, is that I see some people who stop improving but just keep on playing without changing anything and expect that maybe if they just keep playing along they will somehow improve. Personally I think these are the times where you should try to at least dig deeper to what the problem really is.

For example, in my case i once stopped improving so i tried to change things up by using a different skin. And that was when i realized, that the skin I've been using this entire time has a sort of "delayed" hitsound sfx. Basically the hitsound was a couple milliseconds too late and when i was using that other skin it felt like i was hearing the hitsound before i even tapped compared to using the skin I've been using this entire time. So i changed the hitsounds on the skin i usually used and suddenly it felt easier to sync my aim and tapping hands and i started to improve my aim again.

Hitsounds are kinda a "small thing" to pay attention to. You probably never even hear "hitsounds delay" being mentioned around here. If i hadn't tried to investigate even the little things i would've still been using hitsounds that were off sync with gameplay.

Tldr: play more works yes but sometimes investigating on why u suck could help

Though, these sort of investigations could only be done by yourself. Would be kinda hard to do that sort of thing in the forums.

Playing the game is obviously the best way to actually get results.

However spending time thinking about how to improve is not time wasted, especially if you are already putting enough hours into playing the game. Some people are gifted with the intuition or luck to use the correct methods and mindsets to improve the fastest but not everyone is like this. Talking about the game can give you insight into what others see and you can make adjustments to your own play based off that. Then there is also the non improvement benefits such as having support from the community when you are having trouble improving.

High skill players do post but there is a thousand times more bad players than good ones. Also top players that do talk about improvement usually use youtube, reddit, twitch etc instead of the forums.

Rank is irrelevant to how good a persons opinion/advice is. Having game experience helps but is not that important.

Its the same as mapping, being good at the game doesn't necessarily make you a good mapper.

my biggest issue rn is super slow improvement

My advice is to not give a hell about improvement and play maps with the songs you like. That's the reason why someone rages most of the time - not improving (which is just a single miss for the whole map, but enough for them).

Also different people built different. Someone improves rapidly, someone takes time and someone is just not for the job. Nothing sad in this, that's just how the world built.

just progressive overload while having fun, that's the only secret to progress in the game

It's hella weird seeing a term for weightlifting be used for a circle clicking game lmao

Yeah but osu's not the first thing I think of when I hear progressive overload

I find it difficult to use anything except just playing to improve, I think because some of the methods to improve such as watching replays and the like I find to be unhelpful or non-intuitive.
